Here's what other two sim pits look like.

This one has single projection system that displays image in front of cockpit.

I haven't seen what graphics look as while in flight - but ground looks good so far.

Finally, there is a sim with full 180 degree cockpit.

I didn't get a good look at this one.

Have you ever seen theh POH to a WW2 aircraft- the checklist on a 172 is longer! (seems so anyhow)

What does one wear during flight?

Flight suit with boots ( including shirt, socks and underwear. Thermals are optional)
G-suit. <- it wraps around legs and up to lower ribs)
Harness <- to attach things to yourself
Helmet

With all of that, you get into a ejection sit.

First thing is to attach leg harness. It yanks legs to safe position during ejection.
Then you attach harness to survival kit. Attachment is located near lapbelt.
Lapbelt is next step to make sure you don't fly around cockpit during some maneuvers. It's never tight enough.
Finally shoulder belts attach to harness. Those retract during ejection and provides attachment to parachute.

Now to attach wires and hoses.

G-Suit on the left side.
Oxygen to harness connection.
Hose on Helmet to that connection
Emergency oxygen to harness
Comm to helmet.

Now you're strapped in and ready to continue "Cockpit checklist". Strapping in was first step of ~45 step checklist.

Fun!

Today I had my first "proper" sim. It was with 180deg screen which supposedly, just to paint it, costs 10k. Graphics wise I can compare ground while flying to a low-normal res. of google earth. While on the ground, graphics are ok. There are buildings, taxiway lines and other aircraft. The sim is very smooth; probably around 60+ frames per second.

Actual flight is where the fun is. Since controls are hydraulic, they respond with force during flight changes. For example, out of trim flight will give you something to fight with. After each power / pitch change, trim is a must. Also controls are a bit over-responsive and taxing with nose wheel steering is very tricky.

Another thing to mention - motion sickness. I've never experienced it before while playing video games and sitting near monitor. Same goes for actual flying. Due to this huge screen, it made me a bit sick - not to throwing up level but nevertheless not a very comfortable feeling.

Finally, T-6 is a little monster. Take offs are extremely fast. Landings are scary. I've had two tries at landings and balooned both times while balancing afterwords. During touch and go, I was all over 175 feet wide runway.

Now I have some studying to do. Until next time.

Do you have any experience flying before the T-6?

I remember my first landings in a 172. Sounds similar to what you are describing. Way behind the airplane for the first few hours. Hard to believe that in a benign single, but so very true. you'll get there quickly.

Do you have any idea of your flight track yet (ANG/Reserve) or is it all up to how you do?

Here in MA, we have ANG with F-15's, less than less than 10 miles away the Reserves fly C-5's.

I used to play tag with A-10's at what is now the F-15 base. MAANG F-15's are the only fast jets I've actually seen with warshot on them.

I had about 35 hours all together. Before entering this program, most folks regardless if they hold license or have billion hours are required to complete Initial Flight Training. That is done using DA20 at Pueblo, CO.

Actually it wasn't speed of landing that scared me but attitude and roundout. Runway was very wide and unfamiliar to me so there was this odd illusion and final speed was around 110 knots so everything had to be done very quickly

It's based on performance right now and need of AF.

So what you're saying is that you may end up flying a cargo plane full of rubber dog sh*t out of Hong Kong? biggrin

Hopefully, only if he buzzes the tower at over 400 knots.
