the community is superb, and all of it is on that one forum, which makes finding all the good stuff a lot easier.

Well I picked up the X3 Gold version yesterday for my laptop, a 97 page pdf manual eek2 Should I have gotten a keycard or manual in the box ? I ask this because I bought it at EB, and you know how they like to take all the discs/manuals out, and only display the boxes. This looks like a game with a steep learning curve. There did not appear to be any tutorial missions, does anybody know of some good tutorials ?

Just bought mine yesterday from Steam and no sort of manual or training missions. I agree with BillyBud that the learning curve seems a bit steep. I shot my wing commander a few times forgetting right click fires the weapons. Luckily he didn't turn on me or get destroyed.

Anyway, training mission help is greatly appeciated and if anyone bought the Steam version, do you know if there is a manual available in pdf format?

If you do the story it should ease you in a bit, TC was better about it than vanilla X3 though.

So do you advise doing the Terran Conflict first ?

If you've got X3 Reunion and TC I'd just play TC and forget about Reunion. TC is really Reunion++ and is better in every respect.

Also the X website is chock full of great information, everything you'd ever need is either in the encyclopedia there or the forums. Good community too, very helpful and informed.

yeah, skip reunion
apricot slice has a superb overview and tactics guide he created--tons of the best tips and faq from the community. a link to it will be on his profile at the forums.
the game does have a manual, a pretty good one, and the first few terran conflict missions seem to hold the player by the hand. yes, it is a complex game, no getting around that, but is vastly more user friendly this time around.

Thanks pepper, I'm going to give TC a go. From what time I've spent on it, about 2 hours, I like the atmosphere of the game.

Yes, get that apricot slice PDF. You'll learn more about X in there than you ever wanted to know.

One tip, save a lot and as soon as you are making money keep a decent supply of salvage insurance so you can save in space. The combat in TC (all X games really) is pretty unforgiving, especially once you climb a few combat ranks and start seeing corvettes and larger ships.
