Ok, when Windows 7 goes to sleep after a period of inactivity, upon resumption I lose my Joystick and Pedals.

Other USB devices seem to be fine (keyboard, mouse). TrackIR seems to require I restart the software, but after doing that it's fine.

It's a pain having to restart the computer, and I'd rather not have to disable the power saving.

Is there a force-rescan-of-USB-devices somewhere?

Cheers, Spinner

More information: the devices are still present in the "Devices and Printers" list, they are just not active (i.e. if I go to calibrate them there is no movement recorded).

Hhmm. Never heard of such a feature in Win7 yet. You can always buy a powered hub and pull the plug for a second...

Go to Control Panel>Hardware and Sound>Devices and Printer and click on Device Manager.

Go to Universal Serial Bus Controllers and open the USB tree.

Go to USB Root Hub, probably 2 are listed and open their properties.

Go to Power Management, open and uncheck the box "Allow this computer to turn off this device to save power."

That should do it.

That sounds like just the ticket almccoyjr, I'll give that a whirl.

Thanks!

...And it would be great, I'm sure, if Windows took a blind bit of notice.

I uncheck the "allow Windows to turn this off" option for every USB controller, visibly check by going in and out of control panel that the preferences have been saved and....

The next time it goes to powersave it ignores all my demands and resets all the options to "allow windows to turn this off" again.

Grr!

Any ideas?

Is there an overarching uber-setting somewhere for USB controllers?

Cheers, Spinner

You might want to try making a custom plan or selecting a high performance plan and then altering the settings.

This is also a pretty common hardware problem. Check your BIOS power options. There's often a function that says something like "Resume from S3/S1/sleep" for certain devices.

If you can't find that option try switching your sleep mode to see if that fixes the problem. Failing that, you could update your BIOS to see if that resolves it.

Do as above in Device Manager. When all are once again unchecked, do the following:

Go to Power Options > Choose a Power Plan > Change Plan Settings > Change Advanced Power Settings.

Power Options box will be activated. Everything that can be disabled/enabled will be available. Whatever you decide to disable will not be active and will remain so until you once again enable that function.
