Jason,

I think this is probably the best place to post this as I know you will read this and do have the ear of the developers.

I was not only tempted but actually did download AND install the RoF demo (over the Christmas break) after the talk of Neoqb considering a not always on-line version of RoF as I wanted to give my ATI 5870 a work out.

RoF has a stunningly beautiful world and a most unique and wonderful flying experience, but after flying for some 8hrs I was bored out of my mind with the limited scope and endless repetition and actually went back to IL2 and had some quick battles.

The demo has 1 plane, the Spad, a good beginners plane in that it is a solid stable platform with plenty of speed. Not a good plane to turn fight in, so maybe not the best choice for the demo.

Two of the missions are essentially one on one missions. The 1st is where you take off from the field and at location A you get a fighter spawned and in location B you get a 2 seater spawned and they continue to respawn when you shoot down the aircraft. The 2nd is the out and out one on one dual in the sky.

The 1st one is a great meet and greet mission and was fun for a while. Even so, this and the 2nd mission are OK for learning your plane etc but hold no real long term fun at the best of time and even less when you are flying a plane you have no interest in i.e. the Spad.

The 3rd mission that should have been fun? It is not. It does not work as it should or is a terrible design for the demo. In the 3rd mission you take off and have to fly up to the front and back. While there are other Spads flying around the airfield and on the ground, you end up flying solo. Before you reach the front you come across 4 enemy fighters, 4 against 1, yer like that is going to end well... So you fly past them and as RoF has canned missions then there are no other plans met and the mission is a total bust.

So after playing RoF I have to say my ATI 5870 "rocks dude" and RoF does not.

I do not know if the demo is representative of what RoF has to offer, if it is well hmmmmmm, if it is not then a new demo with at least 2 good planes (Axis/Allied), online play and a dozen missions covering all aspects of the game is urgently needed.

Teddy,

I'll take your impressions under conisderation, but it's a demo and is designed to just give a taste of what is in the sim. I'm sure it can be made more fun in some way, but the team is working on adding lots of new features as you know, so maybe after than we can tweak the demo.

Oh and let me say that the demo only scratches the surface. ROF is definitely worth it.

If you want to wait sure go ahead, but its already a great time.

Jason

Jason,

The problem is that taste is rather bland and unfulfilling.

I have been wanting a WW1 flight sim since RBII 3D stopped running on any of my hardware. When I was following Knights of the Sky and then RoF I bought a TrackIR and was about to buy the Saitek gear when the 'always online' happened.

I went my way and sighed in relief at not spending $375 AU on the Saitek but stayed around hoping this DRM would be rectified and now that this is a reality I will not be buying into RoF because of the demo.

If I am to take you at face value that RoF is so much more than the demo then I cannot adequately express how much the current demo is short selling RoF.

Anyway, thank you for listening and responding, maybe a poll would assist to see if I am the Lone Ranger or one of many who found the demo so bland and unfulfilling as to negatively affect their vie of RoF?
