Anyone here tried "Turismo Carretera Stock Cars Argentina?" How is it for am entry level novice to motor sim?

A review here on NFS Shift mentioned that it doesn't support TIR. Is all NFS series the same?

F1 Challenge seems to be a bit too much to handle with joystick only...I guess NFS would be a good start but if it doesn't support TIR.

Any recommendations from you better hands?

Hi

Turismo Carretera Stock Cars Argentina has settings for good joystick control. It is based on GMotor2, so it is much like rFactor. TrackIR does work with it. The cars are a real blast to drive. Not really fast, but have a great feel to them.

NFS, well, I never liked these games, so I can't say much about them other than rather cheesy.

F1C can also be played with a joystick, due to setting options it has. TrackIR only works via 3rd party applications. I actually played a small part in getting TIR into it. A great game for sure, but getting pretty dated now. Still lots of mods out for it though and worth buying, if you can find it priced fairly.

Another one you didn't mention is rFactor. Among the best out right now (I consider it the best).
Mods for any type racing you can think of. Enough options for joystick control. Native support for TrackIR. I would recommend it above all others. It has lower class cars to start out with, both tin tops and open wheelers. It's perfectly fine for someone new to sim racing. And, it can grow as your skills do.

Turismo Carretera is a very nice sim with cars that are great fun to drive, but I'd have to agree that rFactor is a very good choice since it will provide you with most diversity in mods. So if you find you want to try out different mods, you will have a great selection to choose from.

F1C is getting hard to obtain since copies were taken off the shelf when EA lost the F1 license to Sony.

What other cars? Are there other cars in rFactor 2 than the 1960's???

As a rookie sim racer myself, I would recommend GTR2. It's slightly newer than rFactor, works with TIR and joystick (I'm still using an old MS Sidewinder). GTR2 comes with a number of in-game tutorials where you can learn the ropes. Probably boring for veteran racers, but I am finding them to be a good help to learn the proper techniques from the beginning. I understand that rFactor has very little documentation and no tutorials, which is what made me decide to get GTR2 instead.

There are also quite a few interesting mods for GTR2. From what I've read, GTR2 seems to have better AI and may be more interesting for single player, while rFactor would be the sim of choice for online.

Installed rFactor today and tried some test practice laps.
So far, I like it very much.
Installation and set up is so simple and gfx + sound is awesome.

The only set up I need to complete is to move the accelerator and brake to the thrust of my X45 and load a key profile of my own. I don't like the default setting of accelerator and brake to the X axis of joystick and would like to use my right hand for steering only.

However, in game set up seems to have no such an option and the 'ini' files in Controller folder looks too complicated for me to tweak. Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

You can do this in game. Just go to the controls section where you see steering, throttle, and brake. Click on the throttle and move your throttle forwards; the new setting should pop up.

I don't think trying to accelerate and brake a car with a HOTAS throttle is a good idea. The X axis of the joystick is much better because it returns to center.

Thanks a lot, Joe. Didn't realise that. I also didn't realise I was purchasing a jewel DVD without any reading material or key maps whatsoever. frown

Haven't thought about the neutral point between the accelerator and brake...Maybe I should assign thrust and brake to the hand rudder of my X45 thrust..

Meanwhile, too many things to learn before I can even think about starting a race...

Hey, you may want to try out Project Torque, it is free of charge and it also supports Track IR (altough I don't use it myself, just happened to know it supports it).
Check out this YouTube trailer.

Here is the link to the Project Torque website.
