We've added a new map to the SimHQ server. "Sbrodj" is now installed, and there should be a couple missions ready for this coming Monday.

Here's the link:

We played a few MM missions on this new Sbrodj map last night and I wasn't really impressed with the low res textures and the low vegetation variation and quantity.

The quality reminded me of an old Operation Flashpoint map.

Just wondering why this map was chosen to be added to the SimHQ server?

I wasn't too impressed either, but variety keeps things from getting old. There are some alternative islands available that look even more interesting that I wouldn't mind lookin' into, so maybe we could find the best of the bunch and vote on the most popular?

The map was chosen because it's got some interesting terrain variety, and several decently laid out towns with many open buildings. There are several sizes and layouts of bases, airstrips, sea ports, and rail yards. Gentle rolling hills and open plains for armor. Simply put, I think we can make some good missions on that map design.

There are maps with better graphics. But these often come with their own performance issues. Some I've looked at have roadway issues, where AI crash or can't pass some areas. Or bridges that didn't cleanly align with roads. Others have large areas of the map that aren't useful for our purposes. Sometimes there are hills and valleys so steep that players will have a hard time walking around, to say nothing of AI or vehicles.

Several other maps are being looked at too. This one just offers us a good change of scenery to start with.

Have you guys (Brennus and DD) taken a look at Panthera? This one had purple mountains which made me bug out a little bit, but it's growing on me and the performance seems pretty nice. Take a look at it and let us know what you think, or suggest other maps that might be worth looking at.

Sounds like you did your research adlabs! Thanks for the explaination.

Sbrodj will probably grow on me.

I'll check Panthera out. Haven't played multiplayer on it yet though.

I've played MP on Namalsk though ...

This is a very nice and rugged map with tons of trees and whatnot. The snow is a nice touch too.

I've seen adlabs mention this map already though so there might be some issues with it as he explained above.

As for the ruggedness of maps, you could always use choppers (with or without fastropes) for infil and exfil in tough situations which is always cool ... but if it were up to me, I'd take a huey or little bird down to the corner store if I had one smile

I agree the map looks a bit basic especially when flying but it is a refreshing change of scenery from the stock map.

The map is not finished yet, from the map maker,

The general overhaul of the map with a lot of tweaking , to do :
* _Sat enhanced,
* Mid.mco texture updated,
* Road net cut in shorter sections and "smoothed",
* Buildings, walls and side-walks moved to better position,
* Unwelcome trees and bushes cut from road and path.

I still haven't tried Panthera but I just saw this on Armaholic ... nice way to check out a map ... throw Domination on it ... Panthera AI West ...

Just from the screenshot of the Base, it looks like a pretty challenging map in terms of traversing the terrain. I think a lot of chopper action would be needed, which is always fun.

Could we get this on XRoK or SimHQ's server? smile
