I find this muti-Mod environment depressing. It is fragmenting the on-line community and that's what IL-2 does best. Foe example, WC suffered badly when the mods came out and has only recovered by following the mod-hungry herd into AAA mods. 4.09m has helped them a lot and is growing in strength but many other servers seem to have gone on various directions.

We looked at and moved away from AAA mods because HSFX4 seems better controlled, loads faster, seems to run better (subjective view, I know) and has one fixed identity. AAA mods seem to be surrounded by miscellaneous add-ons that seem to make it impossible to know what is going to be needed to fly on a server.

We prefer the 'harder' servers but which version should they change to? SpitVs109s has tried to include some control with 4.09m and 4.09b1m/AAA mods by implementing CRT=2. WC mods is 'open'. Some servers have moved from 4.08m to 4.09b1m to 4.09m. Its a mess. The last thing we want is to go on an 'open' server and find hacked uber-planes.

As much as I appreciate all the hard work that has been done I wish the community could get all it's sh*t in one sock to use an old Naval expression.

Anyway, waiting now for some decent HSFX4 servers and meantime flying HL 4.09m plus some HSFX on our own.

It must be a total pain if you fly on line. I hate flying online (because I am crap).

But a complete mod pack that everyone uses would be excellent.

Don't want to go off topic so a quick one-liner to you JohnnyBoy.

Go to the Ubi forums for IL-2, find the Squadrons thread and find Squad to fly with, you will never regret it, it is such a totally different experience. They're all friendly and you can fly with us if you want to try it out (European timezone http://firebirds.2ndtaf.org.uk/ ) PM me here if you like rather than take this thread off topic.

Thanks klem. I'll have a look. Might even PM you. I'll have a little think first though.

I ran into some trouble I installed ui1.8 first, there was 6 aircraft that show no model in the aircraft viewer and crashes the game when trying to use them (some of the bi planes and a couple others) but everything else works fine. So used the ui 1.8 uninstaller then tried going from aaa 1.1 to 1.2 and now the game doest load up so have to try it again from a backup.

Im just wondering why some of the ac did not go thru in the 1.8 pack which is why i wanted to try 1.2, i been told its a bit more stable. I havent flown online in awhile but have the most fun online in this game.

Just would be nice to have things working with 1 install smile

UP 1.8 is best installed over a clean install patched to 4.09.
