Ok, this is based on the honor system because you can most likely find the answer to this question online but I trust my fellow SimHQers and so will ask my trivia question for the day. 1. During WWII, how many times did the US sink a battleship with a battleship? Also, can you name the battleships involved?

I'm going to say "zero." Final answer.

I'd say none, but the way you posed the question makes me think I'm wrong. Let's see... about the only IJN BB sinking I can think of at the moment is the Yamato, but she was sunk by air power. I can vaguely recall a few other BBs sunk by surface engagement, but not whether they were sunk by USN BBs.
The Battle of Leyte Gulf and the Solomons come to mind too, but can't be more specific than that.
Arrrgghh!!! I hate you PM. Now I'll have to look this up! <glare>

I know it was Leyte Gulf, and I know we sunk their ships. Was it the Musashi, or something like that? And IIRC, the U.S. had the Texas, California, Mississippi, and West Virginia involved in that I think? I remember that we crossed their T.

USS Tennessee (BB-43), assisted by California and West Virgina, helped sink the Japanese battleship Yamashiro on the night of 24 to 25 October 1944 in the Battle of the Surigao Strait. The Yamashiro had already been hit by two torpedos and cruiser fire. A battleship gunfight might have happened if Vice Admiral Kurita hadn't chickened out and ordered his forces to head for Brunei Bay instead of entering Leyte Gulf after he lost three of his ships. Musashi, accompanying Yamashiro, was sunk with bombs and torpedos from aircraft flying from American carriers under Halsey. Fuso, also accompanying Yamashiro, was literally blown in half by a magazine explosion resulting from a hit by an American torpedo. Anything else you'd like to know about U.S. Navy history? Cheers! Rick...

Argh..I can't remember! And I have read Jane's Naval History of WWII countless times, it used to be one of my favourite books! Without looking it up, I'm going to say USS North Carolina was involved.

My hat is off to you, sir! And here I thought I knew a lot about Naval history! Twenty years of medical retirement with not much to do but read can result in massive accumulation of naval trivia, LOL! Cheers! Rick...
