I don't understand / the appeal of seventeen / syllable haiku.

Seventeen syllables? Why? / Why not nineteen or / twenty one instead?

Why is that number / considered the most / prosodically pleasing?

Was the man who wrote / the first haiku missing three / fingers from his hand?
