....

rolling over we went in on the flattop...

our no3 flight had intercepted the japanese CAP so we had a window of opportunity for the strike...

she had a charmed life that morning !!, strikes all around her but no hits yet...

but in the end persistence paid off...

ducking under the remaining Zeros we head home, job done... circling the carrier we prepare to land

but a mixture of exhaustion, and lack of concentration and/or plane damage (that is my excuse!!) leads to us clipping the deck as we came in ... oooops.... suddenly not looking forward to the debrief smile

cheers,

Pobs

Nice story Pobs. But, I've asked you guys to be careful with those planes. I can't keep repainting them... whoohoo

--to say nothing of the price of 100 octane petrol (gasoline).

Nice after-action report, Pobs. You must have cat's eyes to see in the dark.
You do need some bombing practice. But then again, I guess you got some. biggrin

Nice photo sequence Pobs....
Even the near misses look good... WinkNGrin
The SPAW Carrier missions are the best.
My fav is the F4F Wildcats of the USS Enterprise attacking Jap airfields.
Lots of flak and Jap fighters to play with....

Landing those Corsairs is not easy because of that long nose in front.
I've had some success with cross-control side-slipping
approaches but you have to be quick to straightening her out and flair
or it getting real messy....real quick Wounded

Cheers mate pilot
David

If you've watched any film on the subject you'll see them approach from the side then turn in at the last minute rather than fly in from directly astern.

sorry Mike I don't do landing sideways !!! :):).... I let her drop just a little bit too low on that approach and the prop caught the end of the deck before I slid onboard... any landing you can walk away from .....:):)

cheers,

Pobs

I can talk, my usual carrier landing involves a bounce , then an explosion, an explosion without a bounce, two bounces hitting the island then an explosion, missing the deck then an explosion. Well at least the explosive part is consistant. banghead

Where's the LSO?
Where are the lights?
"Call the BALL!"
dizzy
Circle to land results with deck cartwheeling. Then explosion.

Might be safer to bail next to patrol boat!!

Tried that, the plane came down next to me , and exploded..... screwy

Oh yeah, I did manage to land once without the explosion, but the next plane hit me and caused both planes to explode.
