I've seen that in some old graphic programs that think they are getting low on memory. I would expect a fresh install is forthcoming. We all love the dance around here.

Nothing is quite as refreshing as a nice backup/format/reinstall! It's like giving your pc a bath, it's all new again.
Sometimes if you can't find an easy fix, home computers are just better off with the ultimate fix option. You can spend more time hunting down problems, getting frustrated than if you know when to draw the line and reinstall. Especially since this is XP, installations of XP don't last like with Vista/Win7 and slowly degrade.
Good opportunity to set up a large backup area partition if you don't already have one.

Well, if it happens after running an emulator or game, then it might be something buggy with either of those? Maybe track it down to which for a better clue. If after any 3D game, then maybe something with the driver itself. Not sure.

The "void" almost looks like a rare problem that crops up when ram timings are to tight. It happens "in a blue moon" when some software really hammers the ram's buffer.

Since it only "happens" when running those 2 pcs of software and the fact you're running 7950's in SLI, I'd say it was more likely a driver issue.

I'd sweep the drivers and do a clean reinstall of of the v-c drivers. You might also want to update your dx9 redistributable if you haven't done that in a while.

I wouldn't go that far...yet.

If you don't have, go get MemTest86 and CPU-Z. Both are free and are excellent "little" tools.

CPU-Z will help confirm ram, timings based on fsb and voltage without having to poke around in the bios.

MemTest86 will do a diagnostic on the ram and you can also run a stress test to see if you might have a localized heating issue cropping up or any kind of stress induced glitches when the ram gets really hammered. I kinda doubt it though, but it certainly won't hurt.

I still think it's a driver issue.
