Hi,
I have a HP laptop/tablet (xt2100) which I find to be useful win Vista 64 decides to work. I use it to take notes in class and at work. I love being able to hand write my notes w/ pen. However, I've become so frustrated w/ this machine that I'm seriously considering switching to Win7. I also have a WinXP Pro 32 desktop (home built) that I use for my primary machine (gaming). The XP machine is almost bullet proof. It's lean and clean and I love it.

Now, I thought if I'm going to switch to Win7 for the tablet, why not switch the desktop too. My question is what would you Win7 gurus do in my situation? Should I purchase the 32 or 64 bit version of Win7 for both machines? I'm leary of 64bit due to driver issues of the past, from what I've read. Have these issues been cleared up? Honestly, I haven't messed w/ Vista at all. I really have hated that system from the day I got the tablet, but I've also read that 64bit is superior for tablets.

I've never had any issues w/ XP Pro 32 bit and I don't want to go through the hassle of compatiability issues. However, I want to have a system for the future.

Your thoughts?

HB

For my desktop (gaming) system, the switch from XP 32bit to Win7 64bit was nearly painless. Often using Vista 64bit drivers.

If you can get those for the tablet, you would be fine. But of course any laptop requires much more specific drivers than a desktop, so that's where you want to be careful.

I buy 'built' computers. No 'brand loyalty', but I *am* familiar with HP's recovery DVD system, etc, so I just bought a new HP. All their upper level, *real* systems are 64 bit. I haven't had a single irregularity that I could pin on '64 bit'. I have had a couple times my Logitech mouse messed up, but that is IT. I am 'currently' running W7, as I am wringing it out, to know what I can of it before somebody I know buys a new computer and asks me questions. There are 'little' things about W7 that are awkward for me, and I expect in a while to go back to VISTA-64...which I both like, and never had problems with, except the mouse thing. I *suspect* I can cure that by using the HP corded optical mouse, but IT doesn't 'wheel' something I ALWAYS 'wheel'. Point of fact the best computer in the house is VISTA-32; runs PERFECTLY, all the time! ....But I can't buy a new, upper level, 32 bitter, etc...etc...etc.

Lots of blarney here, maybe some part of it will help you... I tried.
