I've flirted with the Editor from OFP to ARMA, now have reawakened my interest in ARMA 2.

Each time I go through a learning curve re-teaching myself stuff, figuring out what still works and what doesn't, and immersing myself in the various editing references like Mr. Murray's ARMA Editing Guide (is there an ARMA 2 counterpart?) but then I sit down in front of the editor and painfully try to apply what I supposedly learned over hours of frustration.

Here are my current (no doubt n00b) questions:

1)Does the (new?) GET IN NEAREST Waypoint action work? I haven't had any success, but maybe I applied it wrong to the situation below:

2)I wanted to get some AI to board a Vehicle (AAV) as Commander, Driver and Gunner, then drive the AAV to a pickup [SO FAR SO GOOD]

Now I want the vehicle to pickup a squad. Several frustrating hours before coming up with:

{_x AssignAsCargo AAV1} foreach units vehsquad [on waypoint of squad]
{_x OrderGetin True} for each units vehsquad [on pickup waypoint of AAV]

I thought the GET IN NEAREST might work if I synchronized the waypoint with the AAV pickup point, but it never seemed to work. Had to use the above AssignAsCargo and OrderGetin statements.

NOW, I would like the AAV to drop off (TRANSPORT UNLOAD) the squad and have them do something useful (like Search and Destroy, or Guard etc..) but I cannot seem to give the squad another waypoint without them then ignoring the vehicle boarding and just running to the next WP.

I'm sure I am missing something.

Thanks in advance..

i am not a mission maker, but i would like to be. i have been experimenting with this to see if i could help.

at this point, the only thing i have done different is that i have the AAV manned at the start. i will add the 3 AI boarding the AAV at mission start so that i can see how to do that.

here is what i did:

i give the AAV a Load waypoint. i give the Marines squad a Get In waypoint and synchronize it with the AAV's Load waypoint.

i then add waypoints for the Marines squad to patrol an area after the AAV drops them off.

i give the AAV a Transport Unload waypoint close to the the area where i want the Marines squad to start their patrol.

after the Transport Unload waypoint i give the AAV another waypoint just so that it will move away from the squad, but this is optional.

when the mission starts the AAV moves to their Load waypoint and waits for the Marines squad to get in. it then takes them to the Transport Unload waypoint and the Marines get out and move to their second waypoint and begin their patrol.

then the AAV moves to its third waypoint, away from the squad.

banghead

Oh great... 2 and a half hours of frustration and I never thought of a LOAD waypoint.

Thanks kramer...again....

At least I re-learned the ins and outs (pun intended) of the FOREACH...construction.

Getting the original three in is the easy part. Just drop a GETIN wayppoint right on top of the EMPTY AAV. They will automatically sort out to the three positions without prior assignment (unless you have a great desire to specify who is Commander, Gunner, Driver)

yes, it is good that if you have 3 soldiers get in an empty AAV they will man the 3 important spots and not just get in the back.

TroopMon2 is handy for mission building. it allows you to view all of the units and see if they are doing what you want them to do.
