Greetings,

Many weeks ago I red a review of european airwar and immediately I was sold.
I always wanted to play a wo2 flightsim and the career mode of this game seemed brilliant.
I decided to buy the game. But the game wasn't available in my country so I purchased it as a digital download from an website. I paid the money, received a serial code and a download link. But when I clicked on the link I received a message that I could not download the game because I did not live in the US. I already paid the money, but I was not allowed to download the game.
I emailed the website about this, received a refund and searched further
I found another website that offered this game, bought it and again couldnt download it because I did not live in the US, this time I received no refund.

Frustrated I turned my attantion to ebay and bought the "totaly flying" combo pack from infrogames. It contained falcon 4.0, b17 and , ofcourse, EAW (ver 1.0).
After two weeks the shipment arrived and I put the disk in my computer.

Problems followed inmedialty.

starting the installation

As you can see the instal options are not displayed, I cannot select what to instal and when Iam istalling a get an error message.

Copying the game to the harddisk (as many sites recommended) didn't work either. After some googeling I found out that the weird message I received indicated that
the cd was damaged and partly unreadable. So, for the third time in a row I bought something that did not work.

I started copying the files individually to see which one where corrupted; here is the list:

files that I cannot copy duo dammage to the cd:

Cockpits.CDF
D3D.DLL
DATA.CDF
DSETUP.DLL
FLT.CDF
FONTS.CDF

DATA1
DEMO
EAW.exe

So, my question is: is any way that I could receive those files? I red on the wiki that many files are hosted on this website but couldnt find them.

I realy want to play this game and I already lost 40 dollars trying to, but I do not want to pirate it either. I have the game right here and can take photographs of it (or the gamefiles) if anyone wants any further varification.

Also: Iam sorry for my terrible english.

Sincerely, Jasper

hi Jasper

take your CD, make a folder, like ..EAW, en copy everything from your cd into the folder.
No need to do an install. You can also make a copy of your EAW folder to p.e. EAW128C and install the latest version 1.28c in that folder - this will allow you separate installs.
You can also use OAW as manager to allow for many more options and possibilities.

groetjes

Hi Jasper.

Have you tried cleaning your disk with Brass Polish?

I've recovered almost 90% of dead CD disks using Brass Polish, and a very soft Cotton cloth. wink

The 10% had cover surface scratches, where the reflective surface was damaged. frown

nope, that did not work either.

I did, however, tried something else.
I copied my cd files (exept the files that could'nt be coppied) into a folder and installed 1.28c in it. I thought that maybe 1.28c would containt some of those files and I would be able to play the game anyway.

When I tried to start te the game the screen went black, I heard the intro movie (but did not see it) and when the intro finished the game crashed.

Any ideas on how I would be able to play this game?

Jasper.

Allright, more news from the battlefront:

I put all the movable files from the cd into a directory, extracted the 1.28 patch and clicked on 'setup'.

The setup worked! The instalationscren was properly displayed and I installed the game. However, when I started the game I got an error message that said it wasnt a valid win32 application...

Any ideas why this is happening, and, how to solve this?

Go the the EAW folder/directory look for the eaw.exe. If it says eaw128.exe or anything other than eaw.exe change it to read eaw.exe. The try to run it.

What OS (Operating System) are you using?

If Windows XP the tips are listed here:

http://eaw.wikispaces.com/search/view/valid+win32+application

The gist of it is either the .exe is corrupt , or due to you originally installing it,
or issue with Windows you can try workaround by manipulating copy of the Windows file: autoexec.nt

So try:
Make a new shortcut on your desktop pointing to the EAW.exe and launch from it
or
Copy the entire folder you have to a new folder, make a new shortcut and launch
or
Set the EAW.exe by right click properties, compatibility, run this program in compatibilty mode for windows 98 / me

or if none work, try:
"Go to your Windows directory in XP. You may have to change your browser to "show hidden system files" first. Then go to Windows\Repair and copy the file autoexec.nt (either right-click and "copy" or CTRL-C to copy )
Paste this file in Windows\System32 and let overwrite the "autoexec.nt" That's it. Try eaw.exe again."

as posted by Wudpecker, and RAF_Dumoulin
which is the old trick that often works

Good news! I chanched the exe, started the game and ran into the dreaded 7212 error.
So why the good news?

Well, I decided to downgrade my videocard drivers to play the game. The orginal plan was that I would downgrade once, play the game af few times and then upgrade my drivers and never play this game again (admitting defeat)

However; this game happens to be absolutely awesome, so I decided to do a additional windows install (with downgraded drivers) just for this game.
It took a long time to get this to work, but then again; it IS a very good game.

Thanks for al your help;

Jasper
