Well, I have good news and bad news. The good news is, Activision is American The bad news, is that it's majority owned by the French conglomerate Vivendi. Source: Wiki

Strictly speaking, no it's not good.
That much money became concentrated in the hands of a few. Now you may say it goes to the stock holders and there are lots of them. True, but only a few have significant holdings and a fecking boatload of it when to their jackbooted CEO who can choke on it for all I care. These two parties amass fortunes and generally don't spend it so it becomes idle money. It used to be that customers dictated the direction of the industry. Now the money has gotten so incredibly large that the robber barons are taking over management of the publishers and distributors and dictating terms to us.
I know my refusal to purchase the travesty that is MW2 is nothing to them, but it's everything to me. I won't support them now and I will be openly rooting for their failure if this is the path that they are going to follow in in the future.
We got hosed and 10 million people didnt even realize it and alot of them took it with a smile, too.
Sad.

It's only been 2 weeks but I'd say I got my 60 bucks worth... no regrets here.

Robber barons? Jackboots? A little over the top with the melodrama maybe?
I'm with Magnum, 60 bucks well spent. I didn't get hosed, I doubt the few million folks playing it online every day feel like it either.

The mulitplayer matching/communications/managment is simply a joke.
A pity because it could have beat the original, the maps are excellent.

it just sucks that games with almost no substance can sell so high but better games (both gameplay/longevity) barely make a mark. This just encourages more companies to make mindless shooters with flashy graphics. But I guess it's no suprise when you see movies like Transformers 2 and 2012 killing at the box office

Well, I gave in and bought it... After all my annoyance at the ded. servers etc I finally tried a friends and went and bought it.
I am really enjoying the SP, just on the Gulag mission. It's even more like playing a movie than COD4 and it's a good thing as I loved COD4.
Now onto the MP. I have not had any problems or bad pings at all and the maps are great so I made a big noise over nothing (nothing new there!).
Thing is I found it at Tesco's for £29 which is great but I would not pay £40 for any game.

Yeah the one where someone is in the Spectre gunship and one on the ground looks great.

COD4:MW was a raging PC success. Why Screw with the formula? My sense is 80% dont care about the changes because it means nothing to them to begin with but 20% do care and well, we got screwed and the other 80% will never know what they missed out on nor will they ever care.
I know what I want in a game and MW2 does not deliver enough to motivate me to purchase. It might be the bees knees in SP/MP as packaged but it's lacking features I (and a fair number of others) consider important. If this were a democracy, no we wouldn't have enough votes to make a difference but that does not mean we do not have a voice in the matter. Look at DICE/EA, they have already come out and reinforced their commitment to carrying on the same dedicated server and game browser that players have grown accustomed to in titles such as BF2 and BF2142 (BF2142 has the best game browsing interface ever, IMHO). If DICE/EA deliver on that front as well as the game play portion in the upcoming Bad Company 2 title, they will have a built in audience of all the players snubbed by IW/Activision in MW2.

Uh, let's not get carried away here - $5 billion - no, $550 million - yes. HUGE difference between billion and million. Even it it was $5 billion, this would hardly scratch the surface as far as helping the economy.
That said, my opinion is $60 bucks for a 5-8 hour frantic clickfest of a shooter with no story is too much....I don't care how nice it looks! And while the majority of the 8 million or so who have purchased the game thus far are probably happy with it, it's not all positive. Regardless, there's no denying its success.
BTW, isn't it just slightly suspicious that the CEO of Activision since the release of MW2 has conveniently sold enough stock to gross him a comfortable $27 million bucks? Quite the coincidence indeed.....

He's free to do with them as he pleases if compliance signs off and its within the company's trading window. Common sense that EA stock would look great after the MW2 release.

MW2 is an amazing game. No story ? Have you played it ? Infinity Ward are great at their craft, they are the the bar to which all games are, and will be measured for along time.
So the no dedicated servers (PC) have pissed some people off, you can't please everyone...but some people need to realize it's NOT all about them. This game is being enjoyed by a massive amount of people.

Finished the SP today and it's very good.

WTF Also I remarked that it happen sometimes that everyone is lagging(big time) execpt the host.... anyway, I have fun nevertheless

The game was developed for the console primarily. I'd be willing to bet that out of total sales, the PC side probably accounts for 20% or less. The PC side isn't chump change, but it's certainly not the money side. If IW takes 2 more years to turn out MW3 (which I highly doubt), I wouldn't be surprised if there is no PC version. Since they are most likely just going to produce it on the same engine and frame, I figure the PC version will still exist.
I thought I more then got my $60 worth out of MW2, I enjoyed the pacing and length of the first game more though. I think with MW3, the two will be an awesome creation and story.

Numbers like these are great for game making companies, and of course, us, the people the buy them. It shows that, bad ecomony or not, we are gonna go out and buy that game we want! Video gaming is alive and well and will be for a long time.

Yep, people need entertainment, despite the economy. We may be more selective in how we spend that money though.

Come on - I'm all for maintaining a positive outlook, but let's not get ridiculous First - no one is suggesting video or computer gaming is dead Second - no one is denying the success of MW2 Third - the economy is much, much, MUCH bigger than a single game, or even a single industry. MW2 might get the gaming industry back into positive numbers for a month or so, but it will do virtually nothing for the economy as a whole. That said - if you think MW2 is awesome, then great, you've got a game you enjoy. But suggesting this one game is great for ALL gamers and the economy seems rather short-sighted to me. Again, no denying MW2s success, but let's keep our perspective

Actually, no one I know owns or plays it. There was excitement and the clans I play with were all going to buy it and set servers up for it, but everyone cancelled when they found out that it was a joke of a PC game. It is a console game now, pure and simple, and basically dead to me. I kind of laugh to myself when somebody says how great it is.

MW3 will make $5 billion!

Regards, The PC Clan I played MW with were waiting for this game and are still trying to make it work, they have their own servers but it appears by reading their forums that everyone hasn't made the jump more because COD5 WoW didn't play well in the MP group. Seems they're like the recent style instead of the WWII scenario's. I'm glad I have it on my Xbox but from what I've read so far, there's no need to buy this on PC and just get ArmA II

Well, November numbers were released last week and despite the phenomenal sales of MW2, industry numbers (both hardware AND software) are down from a year ago. This makes something like 9 months in a row that game industry numbers have declined year-over-year. So, not only did MW2 not save the industry (it certainly helped the industry tho), it didn't do a thing for the economy as a whole. In fact, Activision stock hasn't reflected MW2 sales numbers at all....which means MW2 didn't help Activision as much as one would expect either! Now I'm sure a great many MW2 owners will say it is the greatest game ever, but even so, a little perspective is a good thing. MW2, love it or hate it, is just 1 game. MW3, MW4, and MW5 combined won't make $5 billion
