It's taken me a looong time to decide to try to get to grips with F4 and this free option has decided it for me. Working my way through the comprehensive training missions and reading all the manuals. I'm fond of older sims and this one looks pretty good with the work done by the Free Falcon team.

Yeah it's an awesome game IMHO. The work they have done is just incredible.

Although I personally prefer Open Falcon, FreeFalcon is stll an incredible package.

Free Falcon? Open Falcon? Looks good but what are these? Mods for Falcon4 or something?

Yep, there's a bunch of iterations. I was intimidated by the original Falcon, then it was rare and expensive and dated and updating it apparently required a complex series of install steps called "the dance". I don't pretend to understand the politics (and there are politics aplenty in F4 and its iterations), but Free Falcon 5 (I suppose a modders update of the entire sim) was enough to get me to install it. Simple process - one install file and a patch and its done.

Here's some more shots working through the landing training missions:

After my first successful landing without a flaming crash!

On final and configured for landing

Parked up after taxiing off the strip

Coming over the fence

Pulling off the runway - remember to hit Shift / to steer the front wheel!

Still looks great.

Quick question..

Is it still buggy and unstable?

Last time I played it its was still pretty bad in terms of constant crashing regularly which made playing any of the campaign nearly impossible.

Now I simply play Allied Force just because it is much more stable than I remember this being.

I haven't gotten into campaigns or anything yet and I've only been flying the training missions, so take this with a grain of salt, but so far it seems very stable. I've had one black screen after ending a training mission, but that's all.

If it could do 1920x1200 wide screen with no stretching, and 6DOF TrackIR I would soooo be sold.
