Hi everyone.

Can we assign left and right brakes to our rudder pedals in IL-2?

Thanks

I think that it is in the game. when you hold the rudder pedal in one direction and apply the brake only that wheel is locked.

I have not seen that you can have individual braking assigned.

No. The game itself does'nt provide for this. With some pedal software you can set up a profile which simulates it, but it's not true directional braking. I have CH ProPedals and I have a profile that does this, but I still need to apply rudder while braking in order to turn the plane on the ground. This would'nt be necessary in real life.

"This would'nt be necessary in real life."

Not true. Older birds, and especially those from non-Western nations used the brake and rudder method for many years. Differential braking is more of a Western thing and more so in modern aircraft in other nations.

I've got a VHS tape of the restoration of Black 6 that says different. I have "Check Flight Gustav" also. One pilot talks of having to actually push the stick full forward to make the tail lighter so he could maneuver better on the ground. On the other have I have see WWII doc. and snipits here and there where the Germans seem to do just fine like here.....

IL-2 brakes was modeled accordingly IL-2 (or Spit, Hurri..) real ones:
Press brake lever in stick, and push the rudder to the side that wants to brake.

This system allows a pilot hurting in one leg to land and to use differential brakes.

But with this conf.ini tweak you can use use Toe Brakes in IL-2 without any software:

It's still something that should have been sorted long ago. You have no braking control once your rudder is shot out. Can't think of a time when you could use it more, overall poorly simulated.
