Even with my last Xbox 360... about every 3 or 4 days when I turned it on it would NOT connect to Xbox Live... then a test would show it as NOT THERE... I switched wireless adapters at first but same thing... now i just got that new MW2 Xbox and it's still doing it... 3 Xbox 360's and 2 wireless adapters...and same thing...that tells me it must be a network or router issue... anyone else have this problem or know what might be going on here?

I have my router open, so thiers no password or WIC key or whatever, so it shouldn't have a problem finding it... and why only about once every 3 or 4 days... and I simply have to unplug the wireless net work adapter, then plug it back into the Xbox for it to see it again and connect... but what a pain some times.

Could be a problem with your cable internet or cable modem. I know you've got a high speed connection but I've seen you pretty laggy on some saturdays, your cable co. might be being cheap and putting too many people on your node.

When you test, it does find the router but doesn't get outside of your LAN? Or it doesn't even find the router? If you have a laptop, keep that with you and check it to see if it's connected when you have issues. Check to see if it's connected to the router and try to access a website.
Also test with your wired desktop to at least eliminate some questions, might tell you if the wireless access point part of your router is what's having problems.
Might call your ISP to see if they're having issues in your area or maybe doing some work.

I had a router once that would do that and I had to reset it or power cycle it to accept connections again. Might try unplugging modem and router for a minute, physically at the power cord. Plug in the modem and then a few seconds later the router. That is if you haven't already done this.

You could also try going with a static IP address if you haven't already, that would rule out any DHCP issues.

You know you have no NAT issues for sure? Is the 360 in the DMZ or did you forward ports 88 TCP/UDP and 3074 TCP/UDP (yes, use both on both ports). DMZ is the best way to do it though.

Back up your router settings and then check for any firmware upgrades.

I put this in your other post, but I want to copy it here as something to be checked for Comcast customers that notice a change in service. It may make a difference in the quality and speed of your connection. People need to know about it anyway.

*********************************

(RE: sporadic changes in connection speed/quality)

Go to your router and check the DNS servers (might be under Setup/Basic setup or something like that, around DHCP settings most likely). Compare to the list of servers here, the "domain helper" dns server list:
http://dns.comcast.net/dns-ip-addresses.php
You do not want the "domain helper" dns servers as primary or secondary servers.

A few months ago, comcast switched customers to dns servers to monitor your habits for advertising purposes. When you put in a bad url, it goes to an advertising based error screen now. You can OPT OUT of this, which should help you out.

You can opt out 2 ways:
1)go to your account webpage and find the opt out. I have not done this, I used method 2.

2)The other (better) way, which is what I did when I first heard about this, is to manually change the DNS servers you use in your router.
Look at that server list I posted and find where your dns server is located. Then go to the link here to the opt out dns server list:
http://dns.comcast.net/dns-ip-addresses2.php

Go to the dns server list in your router and manually change the primary and secondary to the ones on the OPT OUT list.
This is legitimate, and the servers are staying at those addresses. You do not want the "domain helper" dns servers.
Alternatively, you could use a 3rd party set of dns servers, which your router may already have listed as an option, but the opt out servers at comcast do a great job.

Also:
If you have not enabled QoS (quality of service) on your router for your 360 and pc, then do so. You may be able to put in a MAC address, but you may have to assign a static IP and put that IP address in there. Set the device to High. This tells the router to maintain bandwidth for the device(s) you see as most important. So if your wife has a laptop that she's on while you're gaming, you want your 360/pc to have priority. It's the marriage saver. wink
Especially important if you host, but also advisable for gaming in general. If you have VOIP, your phone is likely of highest priority and should stay that way, so you don't lose voice quality. It's a good tool to use, but it's only for your LAN, doesn't change anything for issues outside of your gateway.
