Hi there, i am new in the art of the EAW add ons.

I have a problem, how i can put my own names on the aircraft for example "P38H" to "Meteor" "Cougar" etc... I guess that i need a .str file or something like that...
I will appreciate your help..

Welcome to EAW and especially unusual to want to do Moding, so congrats!
(and a warning that EAW modding can be both frustrating and rewarding but also its addictive .. lol)

per Charles gunst's EAW Notes version 2:
http://www.sandbagger.uk.com/RafRoy/CharlesGunstEAWNOTESv2-pdf.zip

PNAMES.STR Plane names displayed in flight

it is extracted from the menu_eng.cdf using CDFRW.EXE

there are also some files you may need to adjust, for example the depending on what you are doing, are you making a scenario or planeset?

other EAW documents on my 2nd page hosting my add-ons and stuff also:

Also the EAW WIKI is a storehouse of EAW Knowledge
http://eaw.wikispaces.com/

The other is search sandbagger's, however now I just noticed that sandbagger's site search is only working for the old dead url sandbaggereaw.com and not the new http://www.sandbagger.uk.com/ so you would have to manual adjust the links in your browser, example;
http://www.sandbaggereaw.com/CORD/tutorial/3dzcam.html from search is now at:
http://www.sandbagger.uk.com/CORD/tutorial/3dzcam.html

If you need CDFRW it is at this address (along with some other basic, coo tools):

http://www.sandbagger.uk.com/CORD/index.html

Enter the site and look on the left side, there are links to many things. Under Utilities click on Tools...

And post when you have questions!!

What centred names??

Plane names are generally stored in pnames.str.

I have send you a str editor to edit them.

Wow, that shouldn't happen! The placement of that text string is set in the exe file. Does it happen with any other name? Could you send me the file you edited to place "Meteor" there?

This is what comes to mind - the exe places that text line by centering it at a specific point. Did you enter a bunch of spaces after the text? Using the space bar counts as an increment in the line. If you used the space bar to go from one aircraft name to the other, you will have a problem. You should use the arrow keys to move around a hex file....
