Hi Mike and all,

Due to much old info in the forum Sticky threads I would recommend it would be nice to clean them up when you get the chance.

I was thinking I could post a nicer format of them, but found only the one EAW & FORUM ESSENTIALS thread has need of that, and is still readable, but the others are almost all unusable information now.

So I thought I just post about it in hope to get things a bit sorted now that we have moved into the 1.28c and later OAW era.

here's my recommends

EAW & FORUM ESSENTIALS thread:
recommend removing outdated OAW references that are only going to confuse users of the latest OAW program / setups.

EAW On-Line Flying thread:
recommend removing almost all posts except the link last by Jel which has Gameranger since the launchpad and servers have changed.

Of course first anyone should submit their latest server or web links.

The only one I have is to the easy time zone website:
http://www.worldtimezone.com/

Information on the 7217 error thread:

Maybe Tony you could update that a bit?

oh also one bad link link in the ( Latest EAW Patch downloads ) is old sandbaggereaw.com

Then also we could put the 1.28c .exe info and links for it and OAW

in fact IMHO we should remove change the Latest EAW Patch downloads to not point to Tally-ho anymore but rather just the info posted by the Code Group and the latest relevent download and patch link(s).

Nonsense. The Launchpad's direct link is still the same and available 24 hours a day for 1.2 AFB pilots, whatever computer they have. We have pilots from all over the world and it's still the most active online community playing EAW.

and my website is still where it's been for the past 3 years:

No mater what that guy tell, Roy is correct!

He refer to this link:
http://groups.msn.com/THEEAWLAUNCHPAD/_Home (and of course others as well). It got posted already a little less than 3 years ago.

Its still in the 1st online related post.

Many other links are dead already, even in the "latest Patch" theatre one link is dead, the other point to the since long outdated EAW1.28.

For EAW On-Line Flying thread:

my suggestion is to remove the current thread posts and simply paste this:

Quote:

EAW Online Multiplayer gaming

Online Servers:

SimHQ:
The SimHQ Multiplayer page has details on servers SimHQ Hosts for Gameplay and Communications.
Links to online gameplay tools, troubleshooting and World time zone clocks, as well as a Calendar of SimHQ Sponsored Events:
http://www.simhq.com/_multiplayer/multiplayer.html

Gameranger:
Many players, including the majority of OAW users now use Gameranger to connect Online:
http://www.gameranger.com/

Other online places:
The Launchpad:
Available 24 hours a day for 1.2 AFB pilots.
http://www.chatzy.com/251310437564
VonBeerhofen website:
www.europeanairwar.net

To join a new TCP/IP game,
-copy the IP number,
-launch EAW,
-click on 'Multiplayer' in the main menu,
-Select TCP/IP connection option,
(Firewall: permit EAW to connect the internet)
-up comes a little dialogue box. Paste or type the IP number in, and click 'OK'
-wait for the game to appear in the right-hand window (unless you host it). your mouse may freeze up while this happens, just

wait........
-when the game is listed & mouse unfrozen, click 'join'
-now in the 'ready room', you can change 'plane, loadout etc. and textchat. Or use Teamspeak if the others are using it too.
-when everyone is ready, the host will launch the game!

Connection Troubleshooting:

Firewall and Router:

- permit EAW.exe to connect
- you may also need to allow dplaysvr.exe
which is a part of Microsoft DirectPlay Helper which the game uses to connect

Here are the Port configurations.
These are so you can host as well as client.
All ports are set to IN and OUT (bidirectional).

You need to allow your Firewall and/or Router to use traffic through at least some of this port range

47624 TCP DirectX7 DirectPlay setup
6073 UDP DirectX8 DirectPlay setup
2300-2400 TCP DirectX7 DirectPlay ports
2300-2400 UDP DirectX7&8 DirectPlay ports

EAW will not need all the ports simultaneously.
In some cases slightly different ports may be used by Directplay, depending on your OS and Lan settings, so you may need to adjust these slightly.

I have posted same at this page at the EAW Wiki:
http://eaw.wikispaces.com/Multiplayer+Online+gaming

For the Information on the 7217 error thread
http://simhq.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/2573902/Information_on_the_7217_error.html

while the technical desciption for the 7217 error is posted it is by no means definitive as to the solution.
I recommend we make 1 post for all the known solutions and troubleshooting answers since this is the most reoccuring problem and question people ask all the time,
then simply refer all new posts of same to the thread.

The other issue is the Briefing / Garbled screens / Horizon fog
- we need 1 sticky for all the answers to that posted.

For the EAW & FORUM ESSENTIALS

(removed, as after further thought I want to consult the Code Group for input)
