The same thing over and over again every day? I can see where that would get boring and the temptation to cheat would grow.

Try this place...

Its all paleo based and they post different recipes every day.

Hopefully the variety helps you stay focused.

Crossfit sacrifices form for speed. There are other (safer) ways to get your heartrate up and giving up the benefits of a slow negative does have consequences. But of course, you may have different goals from mine.

I'm just trying to get fit. Crossfit is just one tool I am using to meet that goal. Its as safe as you make it. I am not pushing myself so I will probably not injure myself. I am in no rush. I get healthier everyday. Slow and steady. I appreciate crossfit for the diversity of exercises. Its something new everyday.

A secondary goal is a half marathon. Crossfit alone would never get me there. It's not enough of an aerobic workout.

Bicycle crunches, roman-chair leg lifting exercise, plank exercises. You need all this stuff to strengthen your core (there are more core exercisesm naturally) and you can do them without hurting your knees. They won't work the big leg muscles, they're not easy, they hurt, but you absolutely MUST do them. A lot of other exercises depend on them. If you cannot do squats with weights, try bodyweight squats. Make your your knees are in line with your toes, and that should strengthen the muscles that hold them in place.

The reason your knees are bad is because they're weak - speak with a (I'm sure you've done this, though) sports injury expert and ask what exercises you can do. The bike -might- help with the knees. but I honestly have my doubts.

Do you have a particular activity that requires a level of fitness you desire?

Most of my physical training is for martial arts. I run, but it's only for conditioning. Frankly, I hate it. I just hate running out of steam during a fight more. biggrin

edit:

And bears. I'm deathly afraid of bears...in the evening...on secluded trails...

You forgot zombies. Zombies too! :P

To the OP, hope your quest is going well, I don't have the patience to read all 18 pages of this thread! Fitness is a great goal, and take pride in meeting the little goals along the way. I'm a runner personally, and love going out for nice long runs around here in DC! If people ever try to get you down, always remember, you're putting in the work, not them. So they can go eff themselves!

Best of luck to you!

8th day at the Gym: 44 total mins 9 mins Stretching, 35 mins on the bike, rode 7.88 miles, Burned 353 Calories, Avg HR 128 Max Hr 148. Really am having to push myself to get the HR up and that is a good thing. means im getting back into shape slowly of course im still a fat #%&*$# but really awesome when you have to keep pushing the resistance up on the bike to get your HR to where it needs to be to burn 100 cals per 10 mins.
