I've been watching the entire series again on bluray and I have to say with certainty that the three episodes from season 2 with Admiral Cain (Pegasus, Resurrection Ship part I and II) are among my absolute favorite from the entire series. Michelle Forbes fricking hit a grand slam out of the ballpark in her performance as Cain. What a fantastic job she did exuding authority and intimidation! The space battle between the cylon fleet and the colonial fleet is awe insipiring and the very end when Roslin makes Adama an admiral was so powerful.
I'm so glad I held off on getting the standard BSG dvd's and instead just bought this complete bluray boxed set.

You didn't wait long! I was intending to give it another year before watching that one through but I may revise that if I get a nice media room set up in the new house
The thing that gave me a completely new appreciation of BSG was Bear McCreary's blog. If you've never seen it it's one of the finest blogs on the internet, especially if you're a musician (of any sort) or have any interest in film scores. I am learning the piano and it's great that he adds pieces of the score to most of his entries; I very much enjoyed the postings regarding someone to watch over me in February this year. It's a shame I never got to see any of the live Galactica orchestral concerts but if one ever makes it up to the Pacific Northwest I'll certainly be going along.
Check out the Eddie Olmos video interview on the August 2nd posting.
I finished Season 1 on Monday. I thought it was good. I looked at the Best Buy website and it appears they have Season 2 broken into two parts? 2.0 and 2.5 The price on each part is 44.99. That's $90.00 for one season and no way would I spend that for one season of DVD's. It's only 3 DVD's in each part. Is this true?

Check Amazon, the dvd's are much cheaper there but yes, season 2 is broken up into two different boxed sets. 2.0 and 2.5. I know, it's all stupid marketing crap.

Dang, I bet the battle in Res Ship 2 looks great on blu-ray. These 3 are great episodes.

You better believe it! It really was stunning how crisp and vibrant the battle looked with all of the projectiles flying in space, the explosions, etc.

Well, I just ordered "The Plan" on Blu-Ray plus "Star Trek" (new movie), haven't seen either. They will be my first Blu-Rays, after having the player for several months (yes, I know that's sad).

I plan on picking up Star Trek on Bluray on Tuesday. I loved seeing it at the theatre.

You'll love the new Trek film Harry. I can pretty much guarantee it.
I'll be watching "The Plan" in a couple of days. As for me, the BSG boxed set was my very first bluray purchase.

Cool concert there! 'Kara Remembers' the version from the episode will haunt me for the rest of my life, just like the Imperial March...in a good way! Both epic hands down

That was a great episode indeed where she's at the piano and she starts playing the song and Tigh immediately recognizes it.

I was pretty underwhelmed by "The Plan". It had some interesting parts and it's BSG so if you like the series you will find it interesting.
Click to reveal..
Things I liked:
Destruction of the colonies, seeing colonies besides Caprica.
Shelly Godfrey and how they explained that (except part of me liked the mystery in original, didn't necessarily need to be explained).
Cavil is a great character and he holds things up very well as the central mover of things.
How they worked Caprica Cavil i to the group of rebels, interesting way to take the character and it also explains why they didn't blow him away when he popped out from nowhere and said "it's a miracle" in the regular series.
Doral's "teal suit" line. The Dorals really are dimwits.
Simon in the fleet and his storyline, nice way to fill out the Simons' character a bit.
Things I didn't like:
There is no plan in "The Plan". When things went awry and they didn't get all the humans, Cavil is just sort of making it up as he goes along. This undermines the main series and makes the "And they have a plan" tagline in the main series somewhat of a joke.
Tori is given no lines and nothing to do besides wander around a bit.
The editing together of the new and old bits seemed a little rough to me, for some reason they didn't seem very seamless.
A rather pedestrian "fill in the blanks" kind of feeling overall. It might have been nice to add something completely new and unexpected in there. There was some new stuff, like the fleet Simon, but that was not much of a revelation, and serving more to humanize the Cylons.
No new 3s/DeAnna scenes. I know this is all to do with actor scheduling, but until the Cavils appeared, the 3s seemed to be running the show. I would think the 3s would have a bigger role to play.
So do you think the boy "John" was just Cavil's imagination, him "killing" any last trace of his old self? I have to think so, it would be kind of dumb for him to just kill a human and risk exposing himself.

So I watched "The Plan" tonight and I have to say HarryM that I agree with all of your observations. Needless to say, there will be some shots/scenes that will be edited for broadcast on SyFy. LOL

I was really shocked that the Cavil on the Galactica killed the young boy. I just didn't see that coming at all.

You know, that completely didn't occur to me at all. If it is indeed what you said then that is a brilliant piece of writing!

So I should take the Plan off my netflix list and go for Razor that I might actually get in now?

Razor is the better movie but I still recommend that you watch "The Plan". It's still a good BSG movie to watch even with its few flaws.

"Razor" is better... light years better. But only because "The Plan" sucks.

It over explained things that didn't need to be explained. Seeing some of the events that were so beautiful as mysteries, played out as really generic attempts at making a seemingly quickly hatched together plan work... just stripped away all the dark coolness of the series.
It also made the cylons seem foolish. I was hoping to see the genesis of the original cylons who then left Earth etc and to then see how that played out. Instead, it was this weirdly paced episode about John's fantasy to bang his mom.
I felt the only character that worked in "The Plan" was Sam. His story was believable and likable and the actor seemed to be giving his all. I just didn't feel that with the other characters. For me, it was the worst case scenario. I recommend anyone who loved BSG skip "The Plan" in case it ruins the whole experience for you just seeing it. There is nothing in there that you HAVE TO see.

I completely agree with you about Sam but I dont think the cylons were portrayed as being foolish. For me I saw it more as a major miscalcuation by Cavil assuming that the other cylons would all act like robots and not have any kind of free will of their own. Cavil never thought that the cylons would end up acting so much like his ultimate enemy: humans.
Your third point about the movie explaining things that didn't need to be explained is a tricky one. I did feel that explaining how Shelley Godfrey disappearing from the Galactica was not necessary but I did think it was quite important getting to see Cavil on the basestar surrounded by the Final 5 in their boxed tanks. I just think that added a nice touch to all the stuff he talked about in that 4.5 season episode when Ellen returned.

Could not disagree with you more about it adding a nice touch. I think we are lucky the show ended at 4 seasons because it looks like the writers were losing focus on what made the show great.
However, it looks like they got that creative energy working again for CAPRICA so... I am excited to see that.

I was really impressed with the pilot episode and am also looking forward to Caprica in January. I just hope that there is an audience out there for more of an intellectual and dialogue heavy type of sci-fi show.

I can definitely see where Moore and Eick were coming from when they said that Caprica would have a very different feel and pace to it compared to BSG but I still liked what I saw. The final few minutes of the pilot with the big "reveal" was very cool indeed.
