I have experimented with a "Patrol" missions. The objective is to patrol a certain zone on the map and intercept any intruders. Because of lots of randomised flights and waypoints and the fact that there is no mandatory flight plan, you can replay these missions lots of times.
I could have made these as single player, but by making them multiplayer you can select different aircraft, you can opt to lead the flight or follow and you can even fly as intruder. Ofcourse you can also team up and fly it as a true co-op (4x4).
I have found these missions to be much more true to life than the stock "follow the waypoints" misions. Beware, it may take some time to find the bogeys. Look out for flak bursts in the distance!

You may find them here, look for the mission names that begin with "Patrol":

aloha Vanderstok. flew a Albatros DIII in the Lille March 1918 mission last night, well done!
take-off/search/engage timing, uncertianty of target locations and replay potential fit my preferences quite nicely.

looking forward to many hours of enjoyment from these, thank you!
