So it begins. The controversy has already started to grow over the "LEVEL" in MW2. I'm curious what everyone here thinks about it.
I personally chose to play the level when given the choice at the beginning of the game and after going through it, I hoinestly don't have a problem with it. I did feel funny being part of it because I usually do not like GTA type games so I actually went through most of it without firing a shot (until I had to toward the end of it) but it is just an event that makes sense in the overall picture of the story to me. It adds shock value (especially at the end of it) and it makes me want to get at the enemy even more.
Although I never play games whose goal is to attack innocents, cops, etc. I don't actually see this as the same thing because it was just a small portion of the game and IW chose to make us part of the action instead of making us watch a long cutscene.
That's my 2 cents.

I started it and ended up skipping it a few minutes in.

I decided to still get the game. When I got to that mission I started it, afraid I'd miss some important info, but as soon as they started opening up on the people, it was skip and move on time for me. Not going to play that. But I do have a question for those who have played through or know but its a spoiler question: When I skipped the airport mission, apparently your first character Allen is killed. What exactly happened? I can only image your character would not and could not participate in this scenario any longer even though he was undercover and as a result, blew his cover to put a stop to it. Is that it? I just want to know why and how he died.
p.s. The mountain mission with your old character Soap is stinkin' cool.

I did fail the mission once for putting about 60 rounds in Makarov's back.
I will probably play it on another play through to find out the answer to Coot's question but due to recent events it was just too much right now.
Yes the mountain mission was awesome.

when the killing is done there is an ambulance waiting to take you and the terrorists away. instead of getting in the ambulance the main bad guy shoots your character as you are trying to get in.
his cover is not blown. he is killed just because he is an American. the terrorist says that he is killing you so that the Russians will blame the Americans for the airport massacre.
i doubt that it matters whether you kill anyone or not. the outcome will be the same. i did not kill any civilians, but towards the end some security types arrive and i did kill some of them.

@ kramer Thanks for answering Coot's question but I have a question. How do you reply with a "Show Me" box to prevent spoilers? I tries to respond but couldn't figure it out and therefore said nothing. I figured that was better than posting a portion of the story all over the board.

A co-worker told me about this mission today as I was asking him about the game.
We started talking about CoD:4 and how I was shocked on that level where you almost escape a nuclear blast but in the end of the mission your character dies. It felt odd and yet interesting at the same time, to not tie myself too closely to the fate of any one particular character. To change shoes every mission... I thought that was a cool feature.

It's a game. And as games often do, they allow me to do things I'd never do in real life, like:
Score a TD in the NFL Score a hat trick in the NHL Sink a 3-pointer in the NBA Help win WWII Kill endless hordes of aliens Drive exotic cars (and paint them) Take on terrorists And open fire on innocent men and women in a crowded airport and firing until not a single one of them was moving, even firing at those crawling away to hide.
Yeah, I played the level. I played as if I were a bad guy. And I'll sleep just fine. It's just a game. But, the end of the mission just didn't make sense to me.

They are just animated charecters to me, no different than the other ones with military gear on, other than the not shooting back part.

So should I be concerned that I walked through shooting every MFer in sight? ITS A GAME!! Well you should probably stay away from airports when you're carrying a light machine gun for few days.

So should I be concerned that I walked through shooting every MFer in sight? ITS A GAME!! I thought maybe I was some kind of sicko after reading the first page of this thread, but I see now that I"m not the only one... It's not going to be a level I play over and over again, but I'm glad I played it once. If nothing else, I didn't miss out on that one little point of the plot. I think I'm putting one of these in every one of my posts from now on...

I loved the level. Probably my favorite so far. I will likely play it over and over.
One problem, I wish I could take my time and torture people who are crawling away. It just doesn't feel personal enough. These infidels need to pay.
Or, are my politics screwed up again? Damn.
Truth be told, I think the point of the mission is a bit goofy. Why would you participate on any level? It makes no sense.

So should I be concerned that I walked through shooting every MFer in sight? ITS A GAME!! I bet 90% of those who say they did not play the level or stopped playing it because they were horrified are LIARS. People pretend all the time. They want to be seen a certain way and so that is the persona they present. But in reality they are the sicko who played just like you. Which makes us all sickos, so we are all normal. P.S. Where were all the kids? An airport full of people and not one of them is under the age of 25? Weird.

Yeah, I noticed it right away. In fact, the first thing I was looking for was toddlers. But, there were no small children. No women pushing stollers. IW must have known there was a line they asbolutely could NOT cross.

Personally, I didn't play it and it wasn't missed. You still get the story just fine. If that was your favorite level, then you must not have played the snowbound airbase. I haven't finished it yet, but so far SP is far less interesting than COD4 was. Maybe because it's not new now, but it seems more like an unending horde mode, other than the airbase level. Maybe it will better.

I'm really enjoying the SP and though it's not new it seems fresh, if not overwhelming. The level of detail definitely holds my attention. Love the weapons!
