Me too, but then I remembered that it wasnt the DR.1, but rather a prototype with Bentley engine.

I`ve tried doing the half flat spin, which supposedly was done in 1.5 seconds at 8 G`s, It`s down right impossible when flying at a straight line no matter what the stall speed, I found it impossible to do unless I fly upwards at an angle, but according to data on the Fokker F1 (DR.1 prototype.) Another F1 prototype with same specifications as the F.1 that Voss flew, was destroyed due to a 7.4 G load? (OK, Wikipedia.) So maybe because Mccudden was diving at Voss at the time Voss pulled what looked like a half flat spin, if Voss was climbing whilst doing that, it would be easy for a fired up attacker to misjudge the maneuver maybe?

Ive tried that manuveur with no success either. The closest I can get its basically a controlled spin that flicks the plane 180 degrees within its own length.

Maybe its not possible with the current FM, perhaps Voss did something different? On the whole though Im chuffed to bits with the FM.

I've seen it as a different number. Maybe I should change it.

Yeah the DR.1 is supposed to be easier to sideslip to the left than to the right due to the torque of the engine, but the documentary Dogfights shows it as a right hand turn, and in the game its easier to sideslip to the right, either the P-factor value for the DR.1 is reversed for some reason (Maybe to not make the DR.1 too good a fighter.) or something else is not how its supposed to be.

I managed to do the maneuver somewhat correctly, but to the right, and using the engine blip to stabilize whenever it rolled in either direction, but it went very slow, and at the end of the turn my nose was pointing down, if I was to do that maneuver to counter a diving attack, whether it be against humans or AI in-game, I`d probably find myself shot to mincemeat before I`m even half way smile

Either way, if RoF really does portray the DR.1 as real as it can get in a sim, I find it stunning and incredible that Voss was not blasted to pieces when doing a slow 6 second turn when not 1 but 5 S.E.5a`s dived and fired upon him, and all of them experienced British aces at that.

Nice Kempf skin musicman! Keep it up smile

Good stuff MM!

Not being a Bavarian speaker, I googled "Kennscht mi noch" to get the (very disappointing) low down.

I much prefer this version, as posted by some wag on another forum.

"Ironically, "Kennscht mi noch?" also has a Klingon translation. It is loosely eqivalent to: "Will you marry me without a significant physical struggle?"

*Apologies to the Kempf Estate*

hahaha

I do not know what Klingonian has to do with it (other then giving a wrong meaning) but being a born Suebian (Southern Germany) I definitely can confirm that "Kennscht mi noch?" is not Bavarian (South Eastern Germany) but the German dialect from either Schwaben (Suebia) or Baden (South Western Germany) the neighbouring region of Suebia. As I know that Kempf is born in the town of Freiburg in the region Baden it must be the dialect from Baden which in this case is written the same way as in Suebian but is pronounced a little bit differently.

"Kennscht mi noch?" means "Do you still know me?" and could be regarded as a tongue-in-cheek provocation to enemy pilots. In reality it came from Fritz Kempf's habit to ask people he met after some time again "Kennscht mi noch?". I would translate it very loosely to the habit of greeting people with the word "Howdy".

See? It wasn't that difficult biggrin

Cheers

Great Stuff Fox! thumbsup

And here's a tribute to your skin, a little "Voss" in action...

Quote:

A 10 vs.10 Dogfight: Fokker Dr.Is against Nieuport 28s (created with Laser's Quick Mission Builder).

While this is a relativly easy fight in a Dr.I, it is still good SA practice. A familiar scene unfolds near the end; considering what skin I was using.

If only Voss had met N.28s instead of SE5s...
