I currently have a first edition xbox with a 20gb harddrive that is full and showing signs of being about to die. I want to pick up one of the 60gb hdds and transfer my profile and saves over to the new box. Is that possible? I know the 120gb one comes with a transfer cable but the 60gb one does not. I was also under the impression that you cant just put the info on a flash stick and move it because of the way that MS encodes the USB port.

Has anyone done this yet?

Here's how I did it.

Go to gamestop, buy a used 360 memory card (you can return it within 7 days, no questions asked). Use the memory card to transfer all the saves. Return the memory card for a full refund.

I am not sure if the new 120gb drives do but I know at one point they did.

So if I set the xbox OS back to factory default I can then use a standard flash drive to port the saves over correct? This usb problem only came about with the last spring patch right?

I don't think flash drives ever worked for 360 files. Also to copy files attached to your gamertag (game saves and DLC) you have to be signed in which will force you to have the latest OS.

uggggh. I only have like 50mb left once I installed forza and all the add ons. I really need a new hdd which I think I will get next week. Guess I will have to buy a used official memory stick thingy.

Works great, I got the smallest one for $17.99 then returned it 2 days later.

The problem that I run into is that if I am going to get a new hdd I want the 120gb one which is 125... might as well just buy a new elite system for 300...

That's what I did, helped along by a RRoD. Still have to transfer the stuff though.
