Man have I been missing out. I bought this plane last night and I'm really liking it. It's a dream to fly. Stable, turns well, it's forgiving. I could go on and on. This is one fine plane As much fun as I have been having with the Dr.I, the D.IIIa is fast becoming my favorite of all the ones I have. I have all of them, except the Pfalz D.VII and Albatros D.III. I like all the ones I have, but man oh man, this D.IIIa is near perfect for my sytle of flying. If you haven't bought this one yet, I recommend you consider it. It really is a sweetheart of a plane.

And here was me thinking I was the only confirmed Pfalzophile. It's a really great plane, I find the others too jittery and hard to control, whereas with the Pfalz, it feels like it knows what I want to do and just does it. May not be the prettiest or the most powerful, but I love it. Welcome to the club.

Nope, it's a lovely aircraft and a dream to fly ... if it was just a bit faster WH_JoeBob

...its one of my favorites, just wish it had better visibility under that top wing.

It's a great aircraft. Very pretty, handles very well and can be thrown around without much risk of an unexpected spin. I don't think it's any faster than a Camel and I doubt if it can climb as well, but it's easy to fly and has good visibility. I like it a lot.
It's big brother, the D.XII, is a different matter altogether...
Cheers,
RD.

Oh yeah? Well then, why didn't Bruno Stachel like it? Hmmm? Hiedemann: "So, what did you train in?" Stachel: "Just and old Pfalz, sir!" Hiedemann" "Then that is what you will fly here!" Stachel: "But, in flight school they told us......." Hiedemann" "Ah, flight school! Yes, in flight school they will tell you anything!"

I am having my best fights in it. If I can keep from getting hit during the opening merge, I can pretty much work my way behind most planes I have come up against, in RR. But that's not really been many different ones, yet.
I feel most comfortable in this plane, and that gives me the confidence to really push it. Gound attack is fantastic in this plane. It is steady enough to line up targets easier than the other planes I have been flying.
It doesn't seem to climb very well. It took a long time to get up to the balloon in the Fly Now mission. So far I haven't blown an engine in it, but do have to watch the revs close when diving. I noticed that diving down to the other balloon. I had to be careful going down.
For me, so far this one is really working out well. I have two league races Sunday and haven't practiced a single lap for either one! Flying this darn plane too much, lol.

Because the things that make it fun in a flight sim didn't necessarily make it an effective fighter in real life where speed, climb rate and staying alive counted more than good looks, interesting paint jobs and underdog cool. I think it's the best looking aircraft in the game. The Albatros D.Va is OK, but it's got a big nose. Cheers, RD.
