Hello,
First, my specs:
ASUS M3N-HT
PC Power & Cooling 750W ATX12V
AMD Phenom 9850 BLACK EDITION 2.5GHz Quad Core (10GHz total processor power)
2GB CORSAIR XMS2
1 Terrabyte Western Digital SE16
ASUS EN9800GX2 1GB video RAM
Second, that stuff is Chinese to me.
Third, and the point: RoF no longer runs smoothly and I’m looking for answers and/or advice to fix this.
Background: Bought RoF in June. Installed/registered without a problem. On medium/high settings, sim looked great and ran smoothly. Had some strange graphic anomalies now and then, mostly in free flight/takeoff, but overall the sim flew well. Subsequent patches and airplane purchases did not affect the sim detrimentally.
Until two patches ago, that is, which I believe was the patch after the Albatros D.III (OAW) was released. After that patch/update download, RoF ran sluggishly and jerky, even in the rotating museum as soon as the sim fired up. Nothing else had been installed on my computer and all my other flight sims continued to run like oiled glass. Defragged, drivers checked, etc. Running RoF at lowest graphics settings—the percentage of which had suddenly increased from 49% before the patch to 65% after the patch, without having changed any settings—did nothing but make the sim look like a South Park episode. Abandoned the sim in disgust to wait for next patch.
Now, downloaded the most recent patch—same thing. As soon as the sim fires up the view is sluggish and jerky in the rotating museum that once twirled about smoothly. Flying is impossible because the control inputs are recognized over two seconds after they need to be, so I am always behind the airplane and getting further back. Also, the graphic anomalies seem here to stay—windows in the sky, landscape seemingly covered by a carpet of melted Skittles, strange rectangular shadows for no apparent reason, etc.
Also, before two patches ago, when the rotating hangar-come-museum did its thing, it did it smoothly and effortlessly. Now, as soon as that comes on the fans on the computer start kicking in a little faster, as they do on those “FurMark” tests, yet temps don’t get above 80C. It’s as if the comp is trying to ride uphill in tenth gear, but only with RoF since two patches ago; never did it prior to that. I was advised to uninstall/reinstall RoF and I did that today, with defrags and reboots, etc. No change; for me, RoF as-is is unplayable anymore, even at the lowest settings possible. All other sims and programs run no problem.
So, what changed in RoF two patches ago? Or did nothing change with RoF and it’s just a problem with my computer that coincidentally began upon the download two patches ago and only affects RoF and nothing else? (That reads sarcastically but is a serious question.) Any idea what could be causing this and what I can do to remedy this? This time, before abandoning the sim outright, I’m trying to find a solution. Be advised that my computer knowledge is very weak to ultra weak so, please, dumb down any input appropriately.
If you’ve gotten this far then thank you for your time. If you will post any constructive advice, I thank you again. Be advised I am emailing tech support about this as well but I’m exploring all avenues.
(Some screenshots from today, illustrating the graphic anomalies described above. These were taken about 60 seconds after entering the cockpit. Again, this happens with no other program or sim.)
