I just read in our local paper that the premier was last night, so I missed that.

I didn't really notice until after watching the trailer, but the old building in the background on the movie poster is an old mill located only a few hundred feet behind my house that's being demolished. Watching the movie trailer, it looks like the scenes where they are fighting were shot there.

Cool, I had a blockbuster WWII movie shot on my back doorstep and didn't even know it! LOL!!

Very cool Ragman but I'm not so sure if I'd call it a "blockbuster". From what I read on the website this seems to be an Indepedenent film which will have a very limited theatrical release.

As for seeing movies shot in places near my home, I rememeber seeing some film crews around downtown Miami when they were filming "Bad Boys 2".

The only thing I have like that is in the old movie "Battle of the Bulge". Sure it wasn't shooted near my home (it was in Spain, talk about a realistic looking Ardennes...), but at one moment, you can see soldiers standing in the mist in front of a roadsign that says "Clermont, 5km". That's my home :p

When I lived in Vancouver, it wasn't unusual to come across enormous film crews filming a scene in one residential street or another. It's amazing the amount of equipment, cabling and people that are required to film a couple of people talking in a street. Literally truckloads of equipment. I was never sure what they were filming - there are a lot of TV series and movies shot in Vancouver - but I think I caught a glimpse of Gillian Anderson once, so that was probably an X-Files scene.

They filmed Top Gun in San Diego before I moved here, but watching it now is kind of funny, since you can see them cut from one area to another that's miles away, even though it's only supposed to be just down the street from where they started.

I ate a few times at Kansas City BBQ, which is where they filmed the dive bar scenes, but unfortunately it burned down a few years ago. The food wasn't great, but it was cool to be there.

Speaking of X-Files, they once had an episode that *supposedly* took place in the city down the road from my hometown. The story occurs in Franklin "City" in Venango County, Pennsylvania and that guy who played Larry on the Newhart Show ("This is my brother Daryl, and this is my other brother Daryl") starred in it. The episode became hilarious to watch because the writers simply invented locations to fit the plot including a major hospital, an indoor shopping mall, a college campus with a clock tower, and a public bus service. It was obviously filmed somewhere else. There was even a scene where you can see a coast in the background; the real Franklin is land-locked and sits in a heavily forested river valley.

Great observations Skycat. The first 5 seasons of the X-Files were filmed in Vancouver so they had some limitations when it came to variety in locations. The final 4 seasons of the show were filmed in LA though and so there was a bit more variety with the locations and scenery.

I cant even watch a single outdoor and a few indoor scenes of BSG without usually recognising the locations:

Baltar's house is in Lion's Bay, irradiated earth is Tsawwasen, "the waterfall building" has been featured in so many episodes for different locations from Caprica to New Caprica and many timelines to mention (plus Dark Angel too!). "the opera house" scene replayed many times is the Vancouver Orpheum, and becomes the virtual online nightclub seen in the pilot for "Caprica".

It is always fun to see a movie being made. We watched Robert E Lee lead the Confederate army through a small Maryland town for "Gettysburg". 1960's cars lined up on Centre Street waiting to drive through the set for the original "Hairspray". Watching 'Homicide, The Wire and The Corner" being filmed in and around Baltimore. Asking Yaphet Koto "about the bonus situation..." ( one of my favorite lines from "Alien"). It never has gotton old.

Then, having a chuckle whenever "The X-files" made mention of Ft. Marlene (Ft. Dietrich) the bio-warfare center in Frederick County, Md. But any time any film crew comes to your little slice of the world is a fascinating experience. It doesn't matter if it is an indie or a major studio, it is something that most people will never see.
