I've tried the stick back technique but just don't get it. maybe I'll stick to right turns from now on ,the AI seems to be too aware of my weakness.

The stick back technique takes a while - it seems to 'unbalance' the spin and changes it into a series of slow lurches followed by quick flicks. Eventually you'll find you can counter the flick with aileron and regain control.

It can take a lot of altitude - 500-1000ft at best - for it to work.

It may not be the correct method, but the more I do it this way the quicker I'm recovering, the less likely I am to go into a R/H spin after cancelling the L/H spin and the less height I loose before full recovery.

I'm still convinced that joystick sensitivity settings affect how the Camel flies.

It probably does.

I'd imagine that rapid oscillations unsettle the aircraft and make it more likely to spin, no?

Hi
some time ago a great video on spin recover was posted for the alb ( or was it the pfalz). It would be great to have the same for the Camel.

Cheers

Thanks to you guys, you're right!

The stick left and back eventually gets the spin into, as KaiserB called it, "a series of slow lurches" and I have to be damn quick with stick and rudder at that moment, but I can recover. Then the trick is to say out of the opposite spin, but a right spin is easier to deal with. Hopefully recovery gets a little easier and consistent with practice.

I've got to where I can get the Camel out of a left spin incredibly quick. I don't think it's very realistic recovery though, as it gets kinda in a pancaking descent at the end of the recovery, which you just fly out of. It's in almost stable flight way below stall speed.

I find that I can turn left better with it than to the right. Just easier to adjust the turn for me.

As a matter of fact, I am starting to get the hang of the RoF Camel and I'm managing it better all the time. Fuel load makes a difference so I usually start at 50% fuel. I don't spin as much as I used to and I can often recover before it gets serious. It's a matter of patience and perseverance to get used to flying it; good thing I have lots of both! (probably because it's my favourite...have I said that before? rolleyes )
