See guys they are on it. I didn't know they would post this blog this morning, a pleasent surprise. I've been helping them with the overall big picture announcement, but this blog entry is just the start of the kind of improvements that will be coming.

Due to lack of time, the difficult setup of controls stopped me from finally giving this surely great game a shot. Order placed smile

great news is that we'll be able to tune our joystick option INGAME, with sensitivity and axis curves!

*Drools* notworthy

The only way is up! I just got my PC back last night after 10 days absence from an RMA (It was a HHD failure which they replaced). This is all great news, loving 1.08 and the Camel and DR1 too, BUT....WHY OH WHY CAN THEY NOT FIX THE TERRAIN DISTANCE SHIMMERING AND TRACKIR/MSFFB STUTTERING PROBLEM? banghead

I was told they were working on it, which I believe they were.....Have they given up on it? It really spoils the experience for me enormously.....Despite getting better framerates in 1.08 and other goodness, I am still in STUTTER CITY.

Don't want to repeat all that was in previous threads about this, I would just like to know if it is still in their minds. I have been here from day one with this sim and love it to bits.....I hope the many others with this problem haven't given up as they don't seem to post anymore. That would be sad as this thing is certainly going places.

I'd like to think I have been more than patient with it. I'd just like to know what the score with this is. Any info appreciated, cheers! thumbsup

Joystick curves = great happiness.

All going rather well, isn't it?

Cheers,

RD

PS Biggles07, gload to hear you are back in the virtual air again. You can fix the shimmering by forcing graphics settings from outside the game - various posts around here somewhere. Sorry to hear you still have TIR/MSFFB2 stutters...

I've never doubted them for a second. Have always been part of the, "Hang in there, it's going to get better," cheering section.
Strange to hear that they thought everyone would be using cheap joysticks, though.
Anyone who wanted RoF was going to be a die hard simmer who has been doing it for years, and has, if not the best, certainly a very good, setup. They imagined their client base being some guy holding a five dollar stick in his hand with two buttons and no throttle or rudders. Yet they made one of the most realistic combat flight sims I've ever seen. Odd thought process going on, there.

In Russia, the kinds of sticks we use and buy with abandon in the West is much less common. When I learned what they were using I was appalled, but that is what is available to them at their local stores. It's just a cultural thing going on.

Cheers Rocket mate, yeah its going good now smile I can't fix the shimmering AFAIK as I have an ATI 4870X2, I think only the Nvidia guys can do that with Nhancer? Thats a definite second to the stuttering with the MSFFB stick and TrackIR though, its fine at altitude. I suppose no one gives a sh*t as long as their game is running well lol.....ah well, Human nature.

Function of living and working in the CIS. Average salary (with all the traps of using an average) is about 12K USD a year in Russia.

Sure, some crazy Westeners will spend big money on a HOTAS, but surely most people don't have that sort of money to throw around!

Biggles, stutters are still being worked on, Neoqb have reported that they belive they have the solution and hope it will be included in the next patch.

Since 1.008 came out (with the excellent new terrain textures) I dont suffer from shimmering. Have you checked your antistropic filtering settings?

Realistic Smoke – at first, we intended to build a uniform system of physics. We did not launch it from the very beginning because it had a huge impact on PC performance. Your feedback informed us that this was a very coveted feature. The first aspect of new physics system will be smoke blowing in the wind. Its operation in-game will depend on various options set for a mission, such as wind strength, direction, gusts and turbulence. Have fun experimenting!

Somehow this sounds like also a working windsock to me smile

And I'm also hoping for the Flanders coast.

LOL Dart, tis true. biggrin But I myself am a Christian 'Power Empath'.....I actually began psycho-somatically experiencing Stigmata- The Wounds Of Christ when hearing of poor Tvrdi's stuttering woes, blood was dripping into my Cornflakes every morning for 12 days hahaha

At Squid, cheers and its good to hear. Fingers crossed. I use "let application decide" in Control panel, and then max both AA and AF out in the ROF graphics settings. I had heard this was the way to go? I will try again to force them from control panel as it may be different with new drivers (9.9) and the new patch.

Ultimately its my own fault for deserting Nvidia the first time in my life and going to the dark side. Never again. Smile2

It's also not just about salaries. It's also about ditribution and retail channels. Today's Russia is a bit different.

Dunno, maybe not that off. Then again I could be completely wrong...
My thinking is that if they found a way to also let the environment partake in atmospheric interaction, and not just the planes themselves, without killing performance, then that might also be the solution to the windsock problem. If I remember correctly, they said animated windsocks where a cpu killer so far, and I don't think it was because of the graphical animation of the windsock.
But it's pure speculation on my part...

And if not, I'll just shoot down my wingman before landing to judge wind direction by the smoke from his smoldering wreckage smile

Not to be a moaning minnie and all, but still no mention of dedicated servers (in the no graphics, no licence required sense)?

Unless that's what 'dogfight server' refers to?

There is already a no-graphics sense and if you require a license key for dedicated hosting you can request one directly from Neoqb, for free.

So THAT'S what you were reading with those funny goggles? RoF 1.009 release notes/blog entry.

I'm very happy to see these improvements AND communication from neoqb. I have to add my appreciation for publishing RoF for the US market, Jason. I may get flummoxed at a few annoyances, but I'm still glad I purchased the game. I can only see the experience getting better.

whoohoo

I want to play with the SDK wink

So, mods will be coming. Unlimited possibilities (Korea 1952, please).
River Ships will help to liven up the scene. I'm liking that. Taking off from them,,, I'm game, hehe.
The Realistic Smoke section sounds fantastic!
And of course the joystick config.
Everything else too.
This is going to be a major leap for the game.
looking very forward to it.
Thanks you notworthy
I think I will head over to the store burnout

Being able to tweak the JS in game is good news. Playback and skin management definately another big plus. The best of all is the communication, and knowing what is being considered for the near future. Thumbs Up

What I like best is the news about flyable two seaters. Not so much because I want to fly them (although I do) but rather because there is now a business model that gives two seaters a reason to exist. Hopefully we will se on or tow or a dozen added to the late 1917 - 1918 stable.

Heck, I think I would like flying some of the 'big' planes, like the Caproni. Hopefully to be able to man any position. Be kinda cool, especially with good escorts.

Oh well, I guess we will see in two weeks wink

I am excited but I will wait until i see what they give us. Most of this stuff was assumed to be in the original release so it is hard to get too excited about it finally getting into the game. Still, if they make good on what they say in that post I will have to spend a lot of money getting off those planes I said I wouldnt buy until they got xxx feature implemented.

This is great news, it is good to finally see RoF get some meat for the bones smile

1.008 is a step in the right direction

1.009 looks to be a much bigger step.

All of the improvements sounds great, as far as the new eye-candy, like realistic smoke, little ships on the rivers won't degrade the game into a slide-show on weaker PCs. I hope these will be optional, like the replay-recording.

Anyway, 1.08 is a great improvement, and I trust in the neoqb guys, that they are going into the right direction.

HEAR HEAR!!

I'm actually liking the 2-seater news, simply because it will give users something else to do other than dogfight scout vs scout.

Call me boring, but I'm liking the idea of riding in the back seat behind a squadron mate, trying to fly over the factory in sector B-12 and back to base .... ALIVE.

...sounds fun!

I hope that by this, they dont mean that to be able to wield custom skins (As was simply custom back then and thus historically correct.) you have to join a non-mod server frown

Yes, two seaters will not be ready in 1.09.

An excellent article. Just what I need to see to make me "feel" like I am part of something good that will get better. It gives me incentive to buy the new aircraft to help support the project.

Without such news on a regular basis, income would be lower for the developer.

In other words, the subject blog could pay cash dividends -- along with making the customers happy smile

And, yes, I accept that some "promises" will be delayed and some will be dropped. I just need 80 percent accuracy regarding the "future" of RoF to be content.
