I just read today about HSFZ for IL46 and I would like to install it. I'll need a lot of help though. First I thought that I would instgall a clean version of the orginal IL46 ver, 407. So, I popped in my original IL46 ver 4.07 and it wont let me install. It only gives me the option of readme. start or unistall. What should I do?

Change the name of the directory where you have IL2 - maybe add "-Backup" or something.
Then try again.

I'm not sure if the install program is looking on your HDD or into the registry.

Maybe someone else here has the answer.

The problem is this:
The first installation of IL-2 is registered in the registry of windows. This means you can not install two copies of the same game.

The solution is to install a clean game and patch it up to 4.08. Now copy this as many times you want and install all add ons to a separate copy f.i. a AAA UI 1.1.1 copy and a 4.09 copy and then a 4.09 with HSFX smile

this will take a lot of HDD space but is the easy way to do it and you'll always have a fresh copy of vanilla 4.08 to copy for any additional new mods popping up.

Do I have uninstall the the 4.07 with missions, planes and some mods that I have on right now and then install a clean copy? Or can I have the two on the HD at same time. Pardon if I sound confused. I do have a copy of IL46 already installed. It has some missions and skins that I have added.

If you don't have any mods installed and just a clean 4.07 with user made missions and campaigns I don't see any reason for problems.

Just upgrade to 4.08 and then make as many copies of this and rename them as to what mod you will install as per my last post.

Be careful to follow the installation description of every particular mod.

If anyone think I lead you on a path to disaster here please jump in and make any corrections.

all the best

EDIT: Oh and be careful to point the specific installer to the correct copy or you will have problems smile

Ok I'll just go into the ubisoft folder on my HD and rename the IL46 there. Steps are are :
1. upgrade to 4.08
2. rename
3. make copies of renamed folder using different name for each
4. upgrade one to 4.09
5. then upgrade it to HSFX

Is that right?

Yes, but don't rename the original installation.
It should be the same as always or you will have a number of invalid registry keys.

otherwise it should be as follows.

1 Upgrade the 4.07 to 4.08
2 Copy this entire folder
3 Rename the copy to f.i. IL-2 Sturmovik 1946 4.09 HSFX
4 Update with 4.09 Patch and skins
5 apply HSFX mod (be careful to point installation to correct dir)
6 go into this folder and run jsgme and apply the different mods
7 enjoy smile

This procedure is applicable to any other mod you henceforth would like to try.

all the best

EDIT: take note that if you have the DL version of 1946 you must apply one additional patch as described in HSFX readme.
