Dogs are the best.

The more I know about people the more I like dogs.

Dogs can be amazingly perceptive. Our 14 yr old greyhound (Sid) will allow kids or pups to jump all over him but will not tolerate adult dogs "invading his space". He somehow senses when it's a weekend and follows a very different routine from weekdays when we go to work.

The poor old guy has developed an inoperable tumor on his frontal lobe. It looks a bit grotesque, but up to this point he is still happy and doing fine....but we know he does not have long. We're going to miss him a lot.

Ain't it the truth.

Archie, enjoy Sid for as long as you've got him. It sure is tough going through that.

Yes it is. I had to put one of mine down Oct. 17.
She was 17 with the personality of a cat.
If she wanted to do something she would, but if you wanted her to do something it was hit and miss.
The second one is still moping about without her.

That's the only reason I would get another dog is for another dogs lost companion.

We've been looking at the local shelter for one already for that reason.

One of the yards we mow is home to a really sweet laid back dog. She will just lay still on the deck while I mow right by her and always gets a petting session sometime while we are there. She seems to know when I am going to stop and play, often getting up as soon as I decide to take a dog break, but have not given her any sign that I am aware of. I have also seen her perk up and go toward the driveway a few minutes before her owner comes home. He told me that he is not on any regular schedule, but that animal seems to know he is approaching long before she could possibly hear his car, especially with my noise going on. I would like to do some serious research on this with some better controls.

Dogs and cats have thousands of years of watching and observing human behavior. They pick-up the slightest patterns quick.
