I think it might be time to trade-in my Core 2 6850 for one of the newer i7 or i5's. I have been looking at motherboards a bit and am basically wanting a motherboard that is a good solid performer and is reliable. I use mainly FSX, Blackshark and GPL....I will likely get A-10 when it comes out. Here is what I am looking for

1) I have no desire to overclock
2) I do not want to SLI or Crossfire or do any Physics processing. I would rather use a single hi powered card
3) I use a single hardrive so I have no need to use RAID or anything like that
4) I do plan on using on-board Audio

With this in mind is there any harm in going with a "simpler" motherboard like the ASUS P755D LE ( ASUS P755D LE ) vs. its big brother ASUS P7P55 Deluxe

In other words, given the same processor, same memory and same video card wuold these two boards perform the same

Thanks,

BT

Wow, that second Asus is pricey.

IMHO, they are both Asus, they have both the P55 chipset, and that's what matters. I'm not that deep into Mobo/CPU benchmarks, but I seriously doupt that a given Mobo will throttle/boost a given memory/CPU combo by a notable degree.

As I learned yesterday however, SATA Performance might matter when looking to buy an SSD. The AMD boards do not fair so well with them, but both your boards have the same decent chipset so that is a given to work.

Otherwise I'm off the same kind as you - I don't do Dual Cards, no Overclock and no Raid, so it's a shame that if you buy a quality brand board, you always pay extra for those features.
