Hi all!
First of all, thank you guys for all the great work you're doing.

I'm having a problem with OAW.

I had one with the EAW 1.28C patch that i managed to solve by reading some posts here and by doing a strange thing: i followed all the installation guide, but i always had this weird message double-clicking the "EAW.exe" to launch the game: "you need a full official EAW installation...". In fact, the "CHATLINE.TXT" file was missing, and wasn't in my original microprose EAW CD. So i just created one ".txt" file with that name, and everything worked good (it's empty)!

I never fly using OAW, but without it, the modded terrain i use seems to be replaced by the original EAW terrain under my plane... So i tried OAW but when i launch the "OAWProject.exe", a window appears and tell me that the "TABCTL32.OCX" is missing...

Could you tell me how i can solve these new problems with or without using OAW ?

Thank you for your answers (and sorry for my bad english!).

Hans,
don't know what you are doing wrong but, maybe slow down a little
to be sure what you are doing. duh wave2
The chatline.txt file, if you definitely have the original Microprose CD,
HAS to be there. If you 'look' at the files on the CD, it should be the
last one at the bottom of the list.
If you have been using OAW before, you should not have any problem with the
new one. (V13) Only an 'old' version of OAW had the name of OAWProject.exe,
so somewhere you are getting your versions mixed up. The latest OAW exe is
named exactly the same as your subject to this post, OAWSelectV128V13.exe.

The download for OAW V13 is called OAW128V13UG.exe. Run it in a folder. It will
unpack and give you a folder called OAW128 and the OAWSelectV128V13.exe.
Place both of these in your new EAW root, and you are ready to use it.
The OAW128 folder is where you place your 'lettered' folders of items you load
with OAW. (T terrain folders, E eaw executable folders, F fm folders, etc.)
Just copy some of your favorite things from your old OAWUnified folder to your
new OAW128 folder.
I'm sure Jel will tell you more.

Hi Hans,

I believe the file "TABCTL32.OCX" is a runtime file used for OAW. There are two parts to OAW, one installs the full suite, and the other is a executable file. It's done this way because the support files are only needed once, and as Mr. Jelly improves the Selector (the executable file), he updates that file only. The exe file does NOT need to be "installed," only placed in the directory. The cool thing about this is yopu only need to install it once and then you can have several different versions of OAW available.

It sounds to me like you are using only the Selector. The full install will load the runtime files.

You can download and install the runtime files from this link:

http://www.sandbagger.uk.com/OAW/OAWrtinstall-11-05.zip

I just dl'ed and checked it and the file is in there. Just unzip and run the setup.

Then OAW should work fine.

Not sure why the terrain you are using is being replaced, though. Which are you using?

Thank you AngleOff and Crashin' Jack for your answers.

AngleOff, i've check again my french EAW original CD (Ubisoft), and i can't find anywhere the "CHATLINE.txt"...That's an incredible case!!! The "OAW128V13UG.exe" is the one i use but, as Crashin' Jack said, i didn't have the entire OAW installation.

Crashin' Jack, thank you for the link! I've downloaded the files, and OAW V13 seems to run perfectly.

Unfortunatly, the "terrain bug" still appears. I'm using the "Euro blend terrain version 3" by SagginB (http://www.sandbagger.uk.com/sagginbadd.html)... I'll try to explain what happens: When i launch a game, there is a huge "square" above my plane which isn't the modded terrain, but the original terrain of the non-modded EAW. Everywhere else, it is the modded terrain. And as i fly, the square seems to follow my plane...Have you ever encountered the same problem?

This problem happens if i put the "*.TER" files in my main EAW folder, or if i create a "EuroBlendTerrain" folder in the OAW128 folder, load it, and launch EAW via OAW...This problem happens since the EAW 1.28b. So i often fly with the EAW 1.28a which runs great.

If it can help, i use Windows Vista Premium 32 Bit, 4 Go RAM, AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ (2.21 Ghz), XFX GeForce 8800 GT alpha dog edition 512 RAM.

Could you advice me again?

The terrain problem I think is fixable- or it has been in my case.
There's a "rezmod.bat" file which has one line:

copy lr*.ter bn*.ter

Copy that line into a "*.txt" file and re-name it as a "*.bat" file.

Run it in the terrain folders which have the problem.

Strange, didnt the french people play online??
This file is very usfull for the multiplayer chat and for sure a part of the german and british 1998 Microprose CD.
Are you sure you have a original CD??
Maybe later sellers forgot this file.

Good that i erased the other, more exact checks for this file. lol

Thanks once again for your answers!

ruuf, nice to hear that i'm not the only man in the world who has an incomplete french original EAW CD!!!

Knegel, yes, i'm sure that my CD is an original one...You know French people always like to do things unlike the others, like eating frog legs, for example, or making strikes every weeks...So, maybe there is no need to search for a "huge" mystery about the "CHATLINE.txt" file...

MrJelly, thank you for your advice! Indeed, i found that i hadn't created the bn*.ter files with the "MAKE_BN.Bat" file whiwh was included in the "Euro blend version 3" folder. Now, everything is good!!!

Thanks again all of you!
