Ill be the first to admit I am a horrible shot, but I bought the game when it first came out and had never gotten a kill until this last patch...Thank you. This might be blasphemy, but is there a no cockpit view?

It's a thrill, isn't it? I can still remember my first...and regardless of when you finally get it, you're sure to get many more from here on out.

I don't believe RoF has a "no cockpit" view the way that some other combat flight sims do (e.g., Battle of Britain II: Wings Of Victory or RB3D with its old "transparent cockpit").

Even it were available, however, I wouldn't recommend it. Instead, turn on the "aiming" helper in the options screen along with all of the icons (friendly, enemy, navigation). That will help you get a better feel for targeting. After awhile, turn the aiming helper off but keep the icons. Finally, turn off all of the icons! It might take awhile, but you'll get there eventually.

And now that the 1.008 patch has finally cured the "wobbles" that all of these planes had, you can actually line up a decent shot!

And Dumbo is correct, there is no way to remove the cockpit. He is also correct that learning to do things the hard way (real navigation, no icons etc.) may take time to learn, but once you are there it is as satisfying as that first kill
