I want to buy a new video card and want the best single card available. Which card should I buy? I have a ASUS Maximus Formula and I have money to burn (sort of). I want to stick with Nvidea.

well, if you wait a little longer you could save a few bucks during the holiday sales; and also the GT3xx series might be on the horizon; although there's no definitive proof. Personally, I'd make the switch to a 58xx since it pretty much beats any current nvidia card and costs less http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/gamin...Score,1533.html

If you CAN get a GTX285 that would be the one. I'm here in Austria (like other Europeans I know) waiting for one since 6 weeks.
Unless they have really reduced prices way below Hd5870 level it is however a bad bargain.

Fastest single GPU card: 285 Fastest dual GPU card: 295 How can a single 285 be faster than a single 295? 295 is a dual-slot configuration but it's still a single card. 285 isn't much faster, if at all, than a 280, and 295 has a 52% performance increase over 280, according to what I read in the Tech Generation Daily.

I was listing the fastest single GPU and dual GPU. I was not saying that the 285 was equal to the 295 in terms of speed. BTW the 295 is a single slot dual GPU config

Thanks guys. I think I will go with the 295. I will too. But I'm puzzled because it says in Tech Generation Daily that the 295 is a "dual slot configuration." I've never seen one, though. Hmmmm.

A 295, to work correctly as far as I understand, requires SLI support of the game, since it's basically SLI on a single slot.

The 295, which I have, is a single slot PCI-E x16, dual-GPU card.
Basically it is two cards running in SLI through one common interface and one PCI-E slot.
It is a little bit slower than 2 285's in SLI, but less power hungry. And it is almost twice as fast as a single 285.
