After much practice and crashing I finally reached a point where I felt I was good enough in the Camel to do something in RoF I haven't done in ages due to it being quite crap, I tried a career.

First of all my wingmen were all fully loaded with bombs for an intercept mission. Granted this is a known bug but it should really be fixed by now.

On the way to the target area my flight were flying at a speed of around 60mph IAS and two of them collided, the remaining two just wallowed around at near stall speed with their bombs still attached. Clearly they were going to be of zero use in the mission.

Well the good news is that there were enemy scouts on the way to intercepting the enemy bombers. Four D.VIIs fighting four Dolphins, naturally I race to engage.

This is about as good as it got I'm afraid frown

The four Dolphins rapidly lose their wings in anything even approaching a seemingly moderate turn. All four died without so much as getting shot at! This leaves me with the prospect of fighting four Fokkers single handed. Well not to worry, after the Lemmings... oops I mean Dolphins killed themselves the D.VIIs flew merrily along in a nice straight line. I shot one down, then another and thought, eff this, what's the bloody point.

Sorry to seem so negative but after 1.008 I felt there were enough improvements to warrant another go at the SP career. I appreciate that lots has been fixed with 1.008 (sniper AI etc) but the career is still very much useless in its current state.

Still, great work on the recent update, it has helped restore most of my faith in Neoqb's vision and direction for RoF and is a definite (if small) step in the right direction for RoF. cheers

I am also playing a career in Camel (i posted some screens in the general Screenshots area of SimHQ) - actually i managed to make 4 missions then i got captured - forced landings in nme territory. I had another one before, i think also 4-5 missions, pretty nice actually with ground attack, vehicle column protection etc.

Of course each with his own experiences in the game, but why generalize directly after one mission?

BTW i did not get any enemy planes flying in straight line so far. Had much fun (sweating) trying to fight in rain, make navigation (no icons) and ... land which mostly puts me upside down.

S!

This isn't generalising after one mission! Every single career I have tried since RoFs release has exhibited the same lack of polish and serious mission design issues. Of course it is possible to have good career missions that are very enjoyable. Unfortunately for every good mission you can be guaranteed a complete mess in another. This is not just me seeing these issues, they have been reported ever since the release of RoF by many many people.

The early version RoF careers all consisted of five friendlies encountering two enemies. A well documented problem with the career.

I also had many careers where my wingmen would do everything in their power to kill themselves. Albatros and Pfalz pilots would not take off in even moderate winds and would just drive along on the ground until they crashed. Thankfully this bug was fixed in a previous patch (which shows Neqob do listen).

Dolphin wingmen who would tear their wings off in every dogfight and still do.

Wingmen in aircraft loaded with bombs on intercept missions. This is a continuing bug and everyone has encountered it.

Enemy flights who ignore your existence and will happily fly straight as an arrow even while being ripped to shreds with MG fire. Many people have seen and reported this bug. I have personally encountered enemy flights who ignore your existence on four separate occasions

Please don't try to defend the indefensible Laser. Every one of these issues is or was a known bug in the SP career. Can you honestly tell us hand on heart that you have never encountered one of these issues? Can you honestly tell us that these issues are not worth fixing?

Sorry ... honestly i am having a lot of fun with the game after the latest patch. Suddenly i discovered that i can play in the campaign - lot of planes, shootable AI and much to do as i said (handling the plane etc.). I just play the same squadron every time i start the campaign, and i start learning the map, so an old desire of mine to do navigation like this finally comes to happen. Also to fly the Camel, and so on.

So i don't say there are no things to fix. I do say - if you have the game, do try to enjoy it. But it seemed to me in the above post that you are re-saying known things, the dolphin problem, the straight line problem - which really i haven't met before personally. In another words, i was trying to say - if i can enjoy it because i find things to enjoy, maybe you could too, if you would try to find those things, and not always see the dark side. It's like always watching the limit, the shape, the form, seeing what's outside, and ignoring what went already into matter, or content, what you have inside (heh this sounds pretty smokey smile )

Yeah.

I don't know what your experience in with WW1 sims is 2005AD, but I have played them all the last 15 years or so. The main ones - Red Baron 3D, OFF, First Eagles.

Each of these had "teething" problems, many had MAJOR MAJOR problems. Some problems took years to sort out (often fixed and the game improved by the modding community).

RoF is no diferent in that regard.

What is different, is that the potential of RoF far exceeds any of those games.

Even right now, with limited content, some annoying and sometimes simple problems, some major problems, and a number of obvious improvements there is NO prop sim that comes close to RoF in the feeling of flying, the actual FMs, the damage modelling, the AI, or the graphics.

Check Rockets' post. There's now a way to have the AI fly without bombs. Other flights ,other than yours, for now. You can't debomb (is that a word?) the type you are flying just yet or the mission won't load. But at least, with your own boys , you can order them to ,"Do like me," and then drop your bombs. They will obey and drop theirs. Then those Dolphins will do battle without being weighed down, and they might not lose their wings. Worth a try.

AD, you have the worst luck!

I've seen the "shoot me" enemy once, and rather than the Dolphins losing wings, they've saved my butt twice!

It could be that in the Noop 17 everyone is slowing everyone down, though.
