UAC = User Account Control

it's the thingy that tells you, when you want to install something, that you don't really want to do so biggrin

LOMAC 1.02 runs just fine under W7, installed and flying in about 5 minutes.

LOMAC standalone (not FC) does indeed work under Win7.

However, after installing FC. I can't get past the infinite loop of StarForce telling me to reboot to complete the installation.

After running the sfdrvup, it tells me "latest protection drivers already installed in your system, no update is need."

I would like to know how other Win7 and FC users got past this problem.

Starforce has a driver removal tool you could try

run all these programs as Administrator, or try disabling the UAC so they get full access rights.

Thanks for that Spede

All programs run in compatability mode for XP SP3 and as Admin, UAC disabled.

Have run the removal tool, then the update. Can't get past the "reboot to complete installation".

Windows reboots. Program compatibility assistant cheerfully informs you " The installed StarForce protections driver is not compatible with this version of Windows and will be disabled".

So I don't understand how some people with Windows 7 are getting FC to run?

using the downloadezd version of FC you get a more recent version of starforce that does work with LOFC. The CD version, some claim they managed to have it working, but, as far as I'm concerned, it never did.

From what i've read, on ED forums devs said they're working on a game update to solve the problem.. 'till then, have to wait... (or get lucky and have windows load the driver god-only-knows-how wink )

My solution to run FC with Win7

UAC disabled. LOMAC installation destination to a different drive (not Program Files)

I installed basic LOMAC, followed by Flaming cliffs (CD) and 1.12b patch. Game would refuse to run. I went to SF website and installed new drivers. Game now runs just fine.

sound simple, but as I did that, it never did... until yesterday when, even with "old drivers" I did not even have the message about incompatible drivers with the old version...

It looks like a lottery.. sometimes you win... sometimes not.... wink

go figure...

Oh, I noticed I'm using compatability with WinXP(SP3). Give that a go
