I am extremely pleased with 1.08!

Suddenly it's possible to take to the skies and down 2-3 planes without extreme luck and endless chasing of fleeing enemies in the russian roulette. The AI is now maybe a bit to weak on the default settings, but hey we want to feel like aces when running a "hello world" mission... I guess the major thing that makes it a lot easier is that the planes are now a lot less "wobbly" in all axis... Before you had oscillations in all axis after small correction that just did not feel right (and made gunnery hopeless). Sure, I have not flown a WWI plane IRL but I have some stick time in the Tiger Moth. 1.08 sure feels a lot better to me at least!

It is like some review of a racing game I read once. I's maybe not prefectly realistic - but when playing a game you want to do those corners with the wheels screaming instead of under steering right out on the grass. That does not mean I like arcade games, but the sweet spot is when it feels real and you get those kills. Now it's there! So small corrections, and such a difference!

Keep up the good work - I was almost loosing hope when this happened! Now fix those multiplayer issues and add a some decent offline content and you have a winner!

The AI isn't weak. It's just more realistic now. Like I've said before, if pilots were that good the scores would have been in the hundreds. No more bullets right between my eyes as soon as I see an enemy plane!
I see the differnce in the terrain, too. It is noticeable. I had felt it already looked good, but yeah, this does look even better.

You are right regarding the AI gunnery, it was insane before I was more thinking of the tiresome hit and run tactics.

Well, anyway - I recently said here in this forum that I refused to buy any planes before they had fixed the game. To celebrate 1.08 that "fixed" the game for me I just bought the DrI and the Camel Will buy the rest when they fix multiplayer at least as good as the ten year old IL2...

EDIT - And heck, that Camel is beautifully modeled! Mmm...

EDIT AGAIN - And TrackIR works now without stuttering! This could naturally have to do with the fact that I've switched from a MSFFB2 to a G940, as there seemed to be some connection between stutters and the MSFFB2? The G940 sure leaves the MSFFB2 in the dust in this game by the way...

I agree, mazex. Haven't played ROF much over the last couple of months due to lack of interest. However, there looks to have been enough improvement to get me excited again and I will show support by buying a plane or two.

If this progress continues, neoqb will be getting more of my money.

Indeed it seems things have changed for the better in many ways now. I bought the DR.1 and Camel and now I cant wait for the update to be downloaded so I can engage in some SP action with my all-time favourite, the DR.1

I really had not touched it in a few weeks since it was ruined for me by previous patches. I really could not be bothered to make the effort on what was a broken sim

Now I'm back in the saddle and it feels a lot better. Still falls short on lots of things but at least now it's got the fun factor back and that's the main thing.

1.08 certainly is the ####!

Yes, they did a wonderful job on the new patch and they said patch 1.09 is going to be amazing!

Maybe most issues will be reworked and some very new stuff added.

With this patch it is fun to fly again and that Dr.1! Wow! I can take out any plane in the sky with her.

So what did the patch fix?

See the change log, but the main fixes were AI gunnery and AI flight behaviour. Need time to evaluate it, but it looks like the sniper AI and lase-guided rear gunners are no more. We also got new and very nice textures and a comprehensive manual for the mission editor.

Still to come - track recorder (next patch), better control model for PC joysticks and dogfight servers.

Yep, flying the Camel or the DR1 almost feel's like your cheating does'nt it. Neoqb certainly did a nice job with this patch, running very smoothly on my rig. I'm not a frame counter but let's just say it's "slicker then snot on a door knob." Track ir working flawlessly, no more magic bullets from the AI ( can actually take some damage now and stay in the fight)Boy, my wife's not going to be very happy about this.
