for all the mission builders here, what do you do for inspiration?
what resources do you use? ive been surfin a bit for something like After action reports or similar but unable to find anything yet.
I was thinking of basing missions on other shooter's, Medal of Honer, Call of Duty.

Pretty much anything. Events in the news, books, or movies; interesting terrain features; underused parts of the game; and experiences from other missions (my castle raid mission was inspired after we received UH-1 air support in one of the coastal USMC raid missions).

When Wepps made missions I think he consulted US DOD infantry handbooks quite often.

I rarely have anything 'external' inspire a mission. I just load up the editor, and look at the terrain in different places. Just drop a playable unit somewhere with an empty 4x4, and start exploring. I see where some interesting operations could be mounted against an area, and then build it.

Sometimes nothing comes to me. I can remember several times driving for an hour or more through every part of an area of the map, where I couldn't drive I hiked. Got nothing. Other times, just minutes of scouting and I've started building the mission.

I do the same as adlabs, only I usually fly in a helo looking for interesting terrain. Then I explore it a little closer on foot if I see something.

I have used lots of sources, from the map itself, to my imagination, to fiction, historical records, and news reports. The SecOps manager is great for really fast, on-the-fly missions that take next to no time to make.

My latest mission is a high command mission where the player controls an understrength Russian spetsnaz/airborne company in a blocking position, based on a Soviet battle in Afghanistan and a few fights in Chechnya.

The thing I most try to do is to make things as replayable as I can, as I tend to play my own missions. If my own enemy that I place can surprise me, I know that I have done well.

one great thing with ArmA2 is that Improved AI allows for more different missions.
