Hello Mr Charlie Chap, how are doing?

I reckon you must be one of the mod developers, am I right? Well, first of all I'd like to thank you for all the hard work you guys poured into it. Very nice mod indeed.

I however have stumbled upon a small piece of misfortune and I've posted in the mod support thread. As I probably might have sounded a little too enthusiastic in proving my point you sir could have chosen to ignore it. If that was so, then I apologize for the harsh post. I think I was a tad too energetic in the way I said it.

I'll repost my question here and if you could be so kind to also point me in the direction of a proper Mod Discussion forum I'd be leaping in joy. (I don't know if we can hijack the IL2 section here at SimHQ to discuss a mod and and up pushing down other IL2-related posts),
What I had previously asked was if the AI had been tempered with in the mod. I had experimented engaging bombers with jets at very high speed passes (I just started with the HE111) in veteran settings and I found myself getting injuried and killed waaaay too often; well, much more frequently than with vanilla IL2 or AAA-modded IL2.

The AI managed to hit me even while making passes at 90º Angle off which in the vanilla IL2 only the B17 gunners could manage.

So has the AI been toned up and made more aggressive in this mod? When I read that changes to the AI were underway I though they would be made to make more mistakes and in case of bomber gunners made less accurate.

Again I don't mean to sound unthankful, it's just that during this simple experimentation the AI seemed much more different than the one we used to have.

Thanks for your time and patience. =)

Thanks for youre answer,

I was polite.. i said thanks and please. so read me please

I made three modpacks (from differents X "officials" modpacks, AAA, C6, SAS) since the beginings story mod.. i made them for the GEFUV team squadron (about 50 pilots), i lead one of these squadrons, and making online campaigns. If you want the last one i made during june 09, ask me by pm.. i will give you the link.

Many many hours... ! to content everyone, light or strong computer configuration, pilots who likes dogs need to be compatible with all modpacks, Gilb57 would confirm you how it was hard for us.. he is in the gefuv too

So if i say they made real good joob, you can believe me; that's great improvement for all community, thx, thx, thx.... !

We think the best way is a basic modpack, without secondary mods, cosmetics ones.. :! after that let everyone add what cockpit, arms skins, clouds skins, explosions effects.. it depends on the computer and doesnt change the finality , enjoyed playing in the same conditions, same weapons and planes

but when i discover your pack includes, with no other issues, graphicals mods, non essential mods.. i feel like an eternal restart, to the same question.. how many modpack for one solution content everyone ?

30 fps offline is too low to play online coop with the 128 players mods, moving units.. ! We need at least 40-50 fps ofline to be playable online

For players who get same problems than me try this :

i gain 15 Fps, with ocl fps booster, OLC Water V2 (See AAA), put mods inside the MODS folder

In the con ini landgeom 3 for 2,

When i put out the clouds i gain about 20 fps.. !

So i loose high distance visibilty and clouds to play a plane game ! I m sad.. .!

Cbal

I assume you have tried changing settings down like Landscape Detail from Perfect to Excellent and Clouds from Detailed to High? Perhaps reduce AA and AF settings in the Nvidia Control Panel?

I posted my system spec a little earlier and it's not much above yours apart from 2 x 7800GT in SLi mode. I get 30-50 fps on line in the air including low level and sometimes down to 20fps taxying with many ground objects. I have Perfect and Detailed Clouds, AAx4 and AFx8 so with lower settings you may
see an improvement.

I don't want to mess around with anybody. But I think Cbal has a point there. (Actually I have to be on his side, since he is my virtual boss :-)

I have a more powerful pc, but my screen is to big. I've got a 24" monitor. And I'm happy with my graphic settings on the max, nothing and nobody will make me change that. ....I should never have bought a biger screen....

This is just a suggestion, you might concider lookin into a version for less graphic goodies. I understand you did it for yourself and didn't have any problems. But.... if I would send you some swiss chocolate, could this change your mind? Or lets call it a online version. These are just my thoughts.

Hello Henrique, yes Charlie Chap [242Sqn_Chap] is indeed one of the developers, in fact without his enthusiasm and dedication it would never have happened.
In case he doesn't get back on here for a while, as far as I know the AI gunners have not been tampered with or altered in any way. One of the HSFX basic tenets is no alteration to Oleg's FMs AT ALL. Another is that we are dedicated to recreating HISTORICAL models and scenarios, so nothing would have been added due to bias or personal agendas.

If the AI-gunners have changed (and I haven't tested it) then perhaps it is one of the new 'mod' He-111s? It is impossible for us to test EVERY aspect of each mod, and we have to take the modder's work to be good. As it is, there are aircraft with incomplete FMs, DMs or cockpits, (plus most of the 'frankenplanes), that haven't been included in HSFX because they are not up to the standard we strive for. When they are they will be added.
Having said that, if the Heinkel gunners' accuracy is wildly off in the mod planes then it will be looked at and, hopefully, sorted out in the future.

It's really pleasing that everyone likes what Charlie and the guys have done, but we are now a victim of our own success. HSFX 4.0 was built so that our friends from around the world can participate in the online SEOW campaigns on an equal footing. Some of them have low-end computers, some slow or poor internet connection. By repackaging the mods into .sfs files it is now very do-able to have large numbers online together. There's a huge multi-sector campaign coming up for the winter, which we are all looking forward to.
If HSFX is good for offline (and it is!) and other online applications then that's a real bonus, but it's not what it was primarily designed for. So please bear this in mind - we designed it for our needs - and get what you can from it as it's a great package.

cheers 242Sqn_Cat

I'm having a ton of fun with this, but one thing that really stands out is the almost complete lack of impact effects for .30 and .50 cal gun fire. Even at night, they are basically invisible. 20mm and up also seems to be lacking a bit in "flash." Seems more like a lingering fireball than a quick, violent explosion (which would be more flash and dust/debris than fire). Is it possible to use one of the effects packages with HSFX, like HG&P and such?

I have a similar doubt about the sound of the Historical Mod. The sound for cannon fire is almost inaudible both inside and outside the cockpit.

I wonder if I am having sound problems or if they are indeed lower than other mods and the vanilla IL2.

I'd be very glad if someone could give a little help on the matter. =)

Perceptive Akdavis !

We found that the hitflash effects really hammer FR's when ground attacking (and always did in the stock game). It was a while ago (and a much earlier version) but we removed /dropped to stock most of them as result. You can put effects over the top in your Mods folder in the normal way if you want to..HSFX is open to modding and uses the same exe/wrapper etc (but some of the files are just in different places)

henrique_rp SAS Cirx did a resent spund remix thats pretty good and sorted out a few things and we will include in a little update. (although you can get it from his site but its a bit more hassle to install).

You can drop mods over the top and customise to your hearts content. Try using 22khz ...very little loss of quality and for some people it sounds better...also..if you have an onboard sound card, run IL2Setup and use EAX1 only and see if it helps (some onboard sound cards are not very good, some are..it depends..).

Thanks for the tip on the remix Charlie Chap. I checked out the forum at SAS, but didn't find a link to this little sound modification you've mentioned. I tried several different sound configurations and in none of them I noticed any difference in quality and/or performance.

The sound for the machine guns is just fine. The problem of the sound volume being too low only appears with cannon fire.

Is there a site we can follow the development of the HSFX mod?

Thanks! Didn't realize we could use the "Mods" folder.

One thing to try is adjusting down the "master" and "objects" volumes in the Il-2 control panel. For some reason engine sounds are much more effected by changes here than other sounds. You have to have your speakers turned up higher than with vanilla, but seems to help with balance a bit.
