Just bought a new PC with Windows 7. I've only installed two games so far, IL-2:1946 and ArmA Combat Ops (retail DVD version from Atari). IL-2 works great and runs real smooth.

ArmA seemed to install fine but when I run the game it takes forever to get to the load screen and when it does it's all in black and gray and is completely messed up. Soldiers milling around are black, like silhouettes and palm trees have big square blocks instead of leaves and everything is a shade of gray. I can't read the menus because the text is black on a dark gray background. It's really a mess. The game ran fine on my old XP machine (though the framerate wasn't that great) but there is something really wrong with this install. I installed the 1.08 patch and the problem continued.

I'll get ArmA2 at some point but until then I'd like to play this with the Warfare patch.

Can anyone offer any advice?

8 GB RAM? Put "-winxp" to the shortcut.
Like X:\ArmA2\ArmA2.exe -nosplash -winxp -mod=xxx

Hey

How well does IL-2 run on that windows machine of yours? Any graphical glitches at all ?

Make sure your hardware runs with the latest software, BIOS, FirmWares, Drivers and Directx.

If you find that only a specific game/software gives you problems, then do a clean reinstall, and try again.

Also, if you cannot even change graphical settings within the game menu, you can edit the config file by yourself with notepad or wordpad.

Tried it. No joy. Behaves exactly the same.

IL-2 runs fine. I haven't noticed any graphical glitches at all.

I'll un-install and re-install ArmA and see what happens.

Someone had the exact problem you had and the winxp fixed it, oh well.

Run it as admin. Install it as admin. Run in XP compatbility mode.

That's the first things to check, anyway.

I was already set up as Admin and I had already tried XP Compatibility mode. That was a no go.

Anyway, I got it. It was simply a matter of installing the 1.14 patch. I didn't think that'd do it because I read that for some people it didn't go away until they installed the new beta patch (1.15, I think). So, I installed 1.14 and, for the heck of it, I started the game and I could tell right away that it was going to work.

And it works great. Can't believe how well it's performing. I've heard the game doesn't generally run that well but it's running flawlessly and smoothly so far. Missions load very quickly!

Of course, everyone has moved on to ArmAII now and I'll get that at some point but for now I'll fool around with this.

Thanks for the input.

Glad you got it to work. There are a bunch of addons and missions out there to keep you busy for months. Of course, the real fun is playing with your fellow SimHQ'rs in multiplayer...

Yeah, except all my SimHQ friends have migrated over the ArmAII. Oh well, in good time.

I still have it installed, with the full mission pack. We should have a retro night sometime soon.

Nor me. I have a lot of missions on there and I sometimes visit them for ideas and to copy over stuff I forgot to do. You know you can run both games at the same time so it is good to copy and past stuff lol.
Would be cool to visit some old missions.
