I can't believe there were 2 side by side and one flew and I didn't go to see them. What an idiot! I knew about the one that didn't fly because I was there a few months ago but had no idea one would be flying as well. Does anyone know if this was a one-off or will it happen again?

There is something snagged up with a permit to fly with the Duxford based 190 for the life of me I can't imagine what it would be....
The one that flys in based in France

The awesomeness of that cannot be put in words! Epic footage, really nice work. That "Buchnon" really is an eyesore though, ruins the lines of the 109 completely. the 190s however look fantastic

Is the 190 based somewhere in N America? I doubt they'd allow a paint job that includes the swastika in Europe. (Not meant to start a debate! Just curious about where it is kept when it's not at Duxford).

There's lots of countries in Europe, if not most, that it's not against the law to diplay it for historical reasons. Germany is where you can probably get arrested for doing it and maybe there are some other countries that hold similar laws, but i'm not sure if and which ones. I still remember spending the odd evening in my father's hobby shop, all the customers were scrounging swastika decals from their spare decal sets so that their next 190 would look correct, since a lot of kit making companies didn't include them to ensure they could sell in Germany

That 190 is based in France. There are two 190s being restored in Florida right now that are coming along very nicely White 1 and Black 2. There are other Flug Werk 190s around in Europe but this French one is the one with all of the flying footage. They've even made a Dora 190 at the Flug Werk http://images.google.ca/imgres?imgurl=http://cdn-www.airliners.net/aviation-photos/photos/1/6/0/1486061.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.airliners.net/photo/Untitled/Flugwerk-Fw-190/1486061/L/%26tbl%3D%26photo_nr%3D24%26sok%3D%26sort%3D%26prev_id%3D1486062%26next_id%3DNEXTID&usg=__XRd1eFqUyNMr3cSEU0GhcqGCzjU=&h=679&w=1000&sz=230&hl=en&start=24&um=1&tbnid=tYu0Pz7LnnOgHM:&tbnh=101&tbnw=149&prev=/images%3Fq%3DFlug%2BWerk%2B190s%26ndsp%3D18%26hl%3Den%26client%3Dfirefox-a%26rls%3Dorg.mozilla:en-US:official%26sa%3DN%26start%3D18%26um%3D1 http://images.google.ca/imgres?imgurl=http://flugwerk.de/_media/GAL_DIR/FW190/2F8O58002.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php%3Ft%3D151006&usg=__HsIWQCroLJOAqE2xcV3faqo-wKs=&h=800&w=1200&sz=153&hl=en&start=3&um=1&tbnid=3HHeZQWGa9FtQM:&tbnh=100&tbnw=150&prev=/images%3Fq%3DFlug%2BWerk%2B190%2BD%26hl%3Den%26client%3Dfirefox-a%26rls%3Dorg.mozilla:en-US:official%26sa%3DG%26um%3D1 http://images.google.ca/imgres?imgurl=http://cdn-www.airliners.net/aviation-photos/middle/0/6/5/1193560.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.airliners.net/photo/1193560&usg=__WBtfAPcxF5KHmlW6dfIoYs6lMYw=&h=439&w=640&sz=137&hl=en&start=6&um=1&tbnid=L_D3imltJI-UiM:&tbnh=94&tbnw=137&prev=/images%3Fq%3DFlug%2BWerk%2B190%2BD%26hl%3Den%26client%3Dfirefox-a%26rls%3Dorg.mozilla:en-US:official%26sa%3DG%26um%3D1 http://www.white1foundation.org/

It's perfectly acceptable to have the swastika shown on display aircraft in the UK (something our communist government have not banned yet surprisingly) as the lovely 109 Black 6 showed when it used to display before some dumbnut crashed it.

This aircraft was fixed and is airworthy again they just don't fly it. I am glad to hear it was fixed. It's a shame that they don't fly it anymore but I can understand why they don't. Wheels 2012 (2009/I)

I also retract my previous comment as my memory failed me and it was in fact damaged following an emergency landing due to engine trouble and not through pilot error so my apologies for that. It was fully repaired but they decided not to to risk it again and keep it firmly on the ground. I am glad I have had the pleasure of seeing it flying on several occasions.

It was certainly a snug fit especially for the larger pilot with all his gear on.

It really was. I don't know who he was talking about but Gunther Rall said a friend of his went threw the war bent in half while flying a 109 because he was tall....maybe Hannes Trautloft. Some good stuff here http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/23110283/m/2391049097

Good link. I will have a read through later and the youtube video is great. It would have been a lot better with the Avia solution.... It's hard to imagine what it must have been like in that tiny space thousands of feet up watching your instruments, navigating and fighting and with the noise and vibration. A special breed indeed.
