Big thank you to Fishbed for giving me a little ArmaII introduction tonight and also thank you to everybody else for a great gaming evening! Had tons of fun and look forward to the next time. It's a shame that MM and TT are a little late for me over here in the UK but I'll try to make it one day smile

Thank you Tbag

We did good last night, and I hope to play with you again.

Glad you got in okay. Sorry that no serious play went on last night. We usually have co-op sessions scheduled for Monday and Thursday.

I was idling on TS but grading exams that I had to have done for today. There were a half dozen people or so on, I think they played Domination for a few hours. Not sure where Magnum was.

I'm not around because I'm having trouble getting ArmA2 to install after switching to Windows 7.

I'm getting a "CRC error" about three files that won't copy off the DVD. Haven't had time to check it further.

hey adlabs have you tried updating your firmware/drivers for your dvd drive? IIRC people who were getting the same error fixed it by doing that. Seems to be linked to the copy protection, or the disk being damaged/dirty.

I was wondering where everyone was too. I looked in at the server at 10:30 and no one was playing. I ended up watching The Office instead so it wasn't all bad. smile

Thanks Jojo. I think my DVD drive is updated. Still no joy. Tried cleaning the DVD, which had only a few little scrapes around the edge where it sits in the DVD tray.

Can't even copy files off the DVD to the HDD, since the errors appear there too.

So I'm trying to install now on my backup PC which runs XP, and of course had a different DVD drive.

I started to buy another copy of the game, but if this CRC error is related to copy protection, I don't want to throw my money away and have this happen again.

Will report back.

Re: CRC Error

This problem plagued me when I purchased my first physical copy. I am sure the thread is long buried, but basically I was very upset only to find that using another DVD-Rom drive (one that was older and definately less reliable) solved the problem. I started wondering if I was having an issue with the newer drive, but every other DVD game I have works just fine. I now have to put the DVD into this (now permanently installed) old DVD Rom only for Arma 2 on that PC.

As time went on, I started to discover some minor problems here and there with the newer drive. Sometimes I put in a DVD containing old FRAPS videos and it won't recognize it - even though it was burned with this drive. The next day, it works fine - and continues to work for maybe the next month. I think the securerom/installer they use is just extremely sensitive combined with an occasional error reading the DVD.

Can't wait until the latest official patches no longer contain the securerom check! - OR - I get a newer/faster drive!

EDIT: After having written this and re-reading your problem, I wonder if it has something to do with the quality of the DVD they used combined with the speed. I know my newer DVD drive runs at 22x speed versus the older 8x speed. Maybe running it so fast causes an occasional CRC error with this type of DVD media. I know some software will attempt to re-read bad data, but maybe Arma2 just auto-fails.

Next time I play, I am going to try and see if I can reduce my DVD Rom speed somehow on the newer drive temporarily and see if I still have problems.

Bah, well the install on the old XP machine with the slow DVD drive failed too, same file listed as the error.

Will have to check it later.

No idea, I just started playing ArmaII online last Thursday and haven't played since. Best thing to do is probably to go on TS and see if anyone is there.

there were quite a few from across the pond that wanted to get together for an European tactical night; but no one wanted to take the reins and organize something. I think there are definitely enough over there for you guys to get some decent games going if someone were to help moderate it

There's definitely enough people, they just need to organize and get it started.
