Greetings,

I played this game years ago on a friend's machine, and years later I'm realizing that it is in many ways a better game than IL2, which I've been trying to enjoy off and on since 2005. This game put me in furballs much bigger, MUCH quicker, and with more meaning within the campaign.

The short of it: I want to play EAW, and I want to play it soon. I'd like to download it, run some mods, do whatever I can to get it running with my nvidia card and vista, but I want to be sure that I don't waste the money buying the game online. I mod games sometimes more than I play them, and I know that with many games the direct-to-drive downloads won't work with the bulk of mods made by the community. If it matters, I have no intention of playing online.

So, I've searched around and couldn't find anything that directly addressed this question: Are there any caveats to buying the game online? Is there a way to know if you're getting the microprose or infogrames version in advance?

The best way is to find a Microprose boxed set. At one time you could find EAW and Gunship in one box. You may want to look at your favorite online auction site or version of Amazon.com for a used copy. The download versions can be difficult to use.

Hi Lucern.

Welcome to the forum. This is a very friendly place so don't worry about asking questions.

I've just checked Ebay, and there are several boxed CD's for sale in the US. I suggest you look around on the web, and you should easily find a copy, close to where you live.

Look for "European Air War" or "Totally Flying", which is a 3 CD set which has EAW, Falcon 4, and "B17 The Mighty Eighth"

Here are a few web links:

Hope you find a copy. smile

Hi, Lucern. Welcome.

Amazon.com has copies--Follow link below for a "GoGamers" copy at $6.72. The picture appears to be an original MicroProse version-- the preferred one.
http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss?url=me...p;x=12&y=21

Prices range from shockingly expensive new (over $50) to the above decent price at Amazon. Probably $10 with shipping included.

You can buy at eBay (or its equivalent) where the seller shows pictures and will answer questions,

I suggest Googling for "European Air War" and picking your best "deal".

Thanks everyone. I really did want to play it sooner than I thought now that it's the weekend, so I tried an online download. The first link on Col. Gibbon's post shows the Microprose box, but it's actually Infogrames - that's the one I downloaded. I want to acknowledge that this isn't exactly what I was advised to do, but you all HAVE the game, so it's easy to say that smile

Regardless, I've got the 1.28c patch installed, and everything seems to be working except the garbled screens. No biggie for me. I know what the 303 squadron's job is in 1940. This is such a great game.

Infogrames is the version I bought when MicroProse stock went belly up.
The who, what and why of the ownership of the code is a complex maze.

welcome to the game Lucern,

remember once you have a working base setup you might want to copy the whole eaw folder to a safe place on your hard drive as a backup, just incase you mess up when installing a mod at some point in the future. You can have as many versions of EAW on your HD as you like just by copy and pasting the main folder, EAW doesnt mess up the registry if you have multiple installs...just have a seperate desktop icon to each eaw.exe and away you go ...

cheers,

Pobs

I recommend you buy a ATI Radeon Video Card instead of a Nvidia card Video Card. Its a lot more friendly to EAW.
