First chapter seems to be very disturbing as we play a terrorist genociding an entire airport full of civilians...

I know that this scene is used to show us that the terrorists are truly evil and horrible (bla bla bla) and provide us a way to explain our trigger-happy revenge later... but was it really necessary in a video game to make us active participant of a civilian massacre?

I won't get that game. I don't care how good the gameplay is. The entire sequence is in bad taste and is a slap in the face of any family member who has lost family members due to a terrorist attack.

What's next? A WW2 shooter where the first scene has you herd Jews into the Gas chamber so you get an idea of how evil and bad the Nazi's are?

Simply sickening.

Yeah, sounds like they're going to take some heat for this decision but it won't stop me from buying the game.

I think it might have been better to have the gamer play the part of one of the victims trying to get away from the attackers. Those are the people the player should be trying to empathize with and feel a duty to avenge.

In the meantime, I won't watch the video. I don't want to see it (from a spoiler perspective).

The same could probably have being said for many games which depict US and/or UK forces that were unwanted by the local populations and that have killed civilians along the way.

The same with games like the GTA series where you get points for running down civilians.

It's a game after all.

The same could NOT be said of U.S. and allied forces who go and fight on our behalf against many forms of evil that seek to devour whom it can. Something is very wrong in your thinking by you placing them in the same category of this in-game terrorist who's goal it is to run around an airport intentionally murdering civilians and to terrorize. Shame on you for such a careless comment. I don't think you really meant that.

And people keep bringing up GTA. Therein is the point. There shouldn't be games like GTA where many forms of depravity can be acted out by the player. And that series has only become more and more rotten over the years, allowing you to do just a little bit more and to go just a little bit farther in the next iterations. At one time I had a couple of those and had to get rid of them. They're poison the whole lot of them. They are unhealthy games not just for your brain but also your spirit. I'm sure I've got some other games that I should think about removing from my ownership.

But games are like any other form of media such as books and movies. There's good ones and garbage ones and its up to you what you end up choosing to entertain.

That being said I for one am disappointed as I was also looking forward to MW2. I was really looking forward to seeing what kind of special forces and spec opts missions that they are making for the player to enjoy. But I don't think that I can get this one now because of the newly revealed level, its content and the way its carried out in a player controlled way.

To be honest, there are simulators out there that let you play as a member of a bomber crew in WW2. Not only was such a thing generally suicidal (look at the amount of missions that B-17 crews were expected to run in the early part of WW2) but it also generally resulted in civilian casualties in order to obtain a strategic objective (targeting economic infrastructure which would negatively influence the enemy's war fighting ability or targeting the civilian will directly by bombing them).

With something like the Mumbai attacks (which I hear this part of the game looks like a replication of) the objective was similar to the what strategic bombing was in WW2. You target a piece of infrastructure or aspect of the economy for attack with the intent of a strategic goal. The Mumbai attacks targeted the tourism industry, I am sure they had the desired affect. 9-11 targeted both economic (the WTC), military (the Pentagon), and possibly political (the White House or the Capital) infrastructure. It had a massive influence economically and could be argued to have had a massive influence in both the geopolitical realm and in our internal politics. Then there are the Madrid attacks, which if anything were the most effective strategic bombing campaign in history, they actually in and of themselves (possibly coupled with the reaction of the government at the time) broke the civilian will to continue the war that they were in as evidenced by the change in government that happened soon after.

Terrorism while it is nasty, it is a tactic or tool that has been used and will be used to great effect. You guys want games dealing with modern warfare but want them to be focused on clean little wars between the US and China which would never happen (and where civilians don't get killed), or a nice clean evil insurgency that wont win because it does exactly what it should not do in some bastardization of reality where our technological superiority wins the day coupled with our inherent intellect and/or discipline? Terrorism is part of modern war, it is high time it is actually depicted in games and simulators that claim to focus on modern war, whether it be "blood and guts" terrorism (Al Qaeda type attacks) or systems disruption terrorism (MEND in Nigeria kind of attacks).

Found a working link.... http://www.mapmodnews.com/article.php/Forced-kil-civilians-Modern-Warfare-2

I have to say, killing the wounded civilians, listening to the screams of the passengers as they try to get away from the sound of gunfire and walking through the pools of blood is pretty disturbing. The last time I was as affected by a game sequence was MW1 when the nuke went off.

Still gonna buy it though. It's just a game.
