Hi all a few months ago I had a hard drive failure. I got a new one and started reloading all my sims and aplications. Long process! I know I should have backed up everything. Well, when i try to install FSX it hangs up about 80% through the processs on disk 2. It seems that a file is corrupted or the disk wont read. What should I do? I don't want to buy another game. I'm ready to get back up there.

Try copying all the files from the disc's to a folder on your harddrive then installing from there.

Not really no, just create a folder thats easy for you to find. Then copy the contents of both cds into the same folder. It will ask to overwrite a file probably but no big deal, then once its done copying just click the setup.exe.

Watch when copying the contents over from CD2, if you get an error take a note of the file that wont copy and we'll see what we can do.

I did find one hang up so far. I started copying the disks last night. This morning I had a messsage that said "Cannot copy D2Fea~16: Data error (cyclic redundancy check.) So have started copying each file one at a time. Now I'm back to D2Fea~16 on disk 2. Everything from disk copied without error it appears. All right, what do you think?

A search on that file brought up several hits and it appears that several had that same file problem back in 2007 (guessing a bad production run).

Basically you have a couple of options.

Buy a new copy (if you don't already have the "Acceleration" addon you can see it as an opportunity to get the "Gold Edition" that includes FSX Deluxe & Acceleration addon for about $30 or so.

or

Borrow the CD if you know anyone else local that has it and grab that one file.

or

Download that one 388MB file, which of course I can't tell you where to get in this forum.

Might be a way to error correct it through pars or something, toss me a PM and I'll try to think of the easiest option in the morn....I'm too tapped at the moment to think straight. Damn fridge died and I had to spend the evening finding a new one, yanking the old, replacing the water line, etc, etc... whole time thinking how I had to just blow my upgrade funds ARGHH!

On the positive side, the Gold edition can be had fairly cheap these days. Might be worth it to copy the entire FSX Folder onto a backup media in the future, that's how I restore my FS9.

I just got a chance to check in. There is a definite hang up on files D2~Fea16 and D2~Fea17. All the rest of the files, I have been able to copy. I agree that the Gold Editiion is a great buy. However, I already have FSX and Accelelration. With money being tight, I can't just pull the trigger on both again.
@ HardTale, I know what you mean about the refrigerator. I just had problems with mine a couple of months ago. It's no fun. I'll shoot a message your way later. Hope somebody can help.
