Just saw this on Steam and looks different for an online shooter: http://www.shatteredhorizon.com/ the same sort of map may get boring though but it's definately different and cheap.

Whoa! Just spotted that it will not work with Windows XP as it's DX10 only....

I have been following it for some time now. The whole jetpack thing is a new addition and I dont really like it but I will probably buy it when it comes out. I always wanted a zero g space shooter like that and now they have finally made one. Even if it sucks I am going to give them support and maybe the sequel will be better smile

The Descent community ought to be pretty excited over this. They've been dieing for a new six degrees of freedom game, for years.

Played it for a bit at lunch. It defiantly has potential. I am not sure how it will hold up after you play it for a long time. There didnt seem to be much variety.

So far i like the game and the 18,- € i payed are not a waste of money.
There is some tactical variety like using some kind of "silent running" mode where you can be spotted visual but do not show up on scanners. Cool thing is in "SR" ppl sometimes mistake you for one of the floating bodies.
There are also 3 kind of rockets. Ice rockets explode leaving a thick cloud of ice covering the visuals and sensor scans, the EMP rocktes produce an eletromagnetic field that effect the abilities of the space suit and some kind of exploding rocket where the shockwave pushes you away, in the worst case out of the playing fiels where micro meteroits makes the lifespan very short.
The one gripe i have with the game is the missing ingame voip. A multiplayer game published in 2009 should have something like that!

Is it still confirmed as only DX10 game or will they release a version for WinXP users? Because they are actually not thinking of the millions of possible customers that do want to play just lack DX10. But sales will push the patch more than likely.

I do not think it will ever go dx9 for xp. They made the game as a kind of benchmark to show off dx10. If they down grade it then half the purpose of the game would be gone.

How well did it run for you Master? I read on the steam forums that if you don't blow away the recommended requirements it runs terrible.

I watched some videos and it looked really cool, especially for 20 bucks.

I run at 1680*1050 with the settings on max except for FSAA at x4 instead of x8 (couldnt see a difference) and I run about 30fps.

Well I figured "hey, what's 20 bucks" and picked it up. Pretty cool, took me a bit to get used to the weapon and my KDR is still under 1 but I got it a lot closer to even before I went to bed. Zero G fighting definitely takes some getting used too but the game is worth the entry fee just to play something different in an FPS. I can run it at 1440x900 on medium and maintain a high framerate. I can run it higher and would if it was single player but for MP games I don't like to go below 30 or 40 FPS.

I was trying to figure out if the guns were hitscan or not last night in my short play time. Here it is confirmed by the devs: http://futuremark.yougamers.com/forum/showpost.php?p=1245034&postcount=4

I guess the guys I was having to lead were lagging.

There's no SP game at all? Can't see any mention of it on their site.

Quote:
Astronaut shooter Shattered Horizon will get a (free) four-map expansion in the near future.

Testing on the new maps will begin soon, which is a good thing, as interesting space-levels are one of the best things about the game. “Selected players will help us test the new Moonrise levels from a very early stage,” says design lead Antti Summala, who we interviewed last month.

“Level design for zero gravity combat is a big challenge and we are looking forward to having real players help us create new experiences that cannot be found in other FPS games.” The game is out now, and can be bought directly from the Shattered Horizon site. Check out my Eurogamer review for a verdict.

There are also going to be Steam guest passes for existing players, soon.
