Hello folks

I just installed a Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit as a dual boot on a seperate drive from my Windows XP 32 bit. Windows works ok until I try to install a program from a disk. IL-2 46, and FSX9 disks just spin and nothing happens.

ROF loads OK until the final setup where it tries to load Acrobat Reader, DX9c, etc. Then I get:

Unable to execute file:
E:\3rd_party\acrobat\ArcrobatReader.exe

CreateProcess failed; code 740.
The requested Operation requires elevation.

the same for DX9c etc.

I suppose it may have something to do with Administrator problems but I'm not sure where to correct this in Windows 7.

Right click on the file, select "run as administrator".

Thanks Mattm

That did the trick for ROF and I now have it loaded and working.

IL-2 1946 just stops after the setup exe asks if you want "English"

If you bought the North American box you will see that I warned all Vista users to turn off UAC otherwise this will happen. Obviously, Win 7 works in a similar way. Good to know.

Hi Jason

How do you turn off UAC. Universal Administrator Control?

In Windows 7? I don't know I don't have Win 7 yet. In Vista its located in User Accounts.

Chivas, run the "a.exe" on the 1946 disk "as administrator," verus the setup.exe.

[edit]

If you have a full installation still on the disk under another partition, just copy it and paste it to the other. The IL-2 series doesn't need a registry entry to run, unlike most software.

Thanks Dart

I finally figured out the a.exe and have IL-2 loaded but now it won't run.

All working now, but I must say I'm not sure I like tinkering with Windows 7 yet, but IL-2 runs faster in Windows 7 64bit than Windows XP 32bit. Haven't tested ROF yet.

Enable the Administrator Account in Windows 7
1.Open the command prompt with elevated privileges by clicking the Start orb, All Programs, Accessories, right-click Command Prompt and then select Run as administrator.
2.Type net user administrator /active:yes and then press Enter.
3.Restart or log off your computer and log in as Administrator

This is very good to know.

Q: If I install Win7 over Vista, is there anything I need to look out for? Will this be an easy install of Win7 replacement of Vista. Has anyone here been through this?

I am not good at computer stuff so any heads-up will be great.

I do not prefer running two OS's.

womenfly2,
i installed Win7 64 over my Vista 64 this weekend. Win7 runs a compatability check before it installs & gives you a list of potential problems with your hardware/software. the only problems i have had so far are the ones it listed. i had to update TrendMicro, OpticFilm 7200i film scanner, re-install Studio 12. it said iTunes would need to be re-installed but it seems to work without it so far.
my TrackIR, Saitek x52 stick & pedals, X-Fi gamer sound card & RoF all worked fine.

Thanks DEW, sounds like good news. I will be doing the same in about a week.

Cheers.
